Same here. I usually get pretty good once a new fighting game comes out but I fall off pretty quickly in skill. I end up sticking with gimmicks that worked at the start but most people won't fall for them twice.
I'm gonna try and stick with Street Fighter V when that comes out though since that's going to be the perfect game to stay with.

at this point i'm not sure if i want to keep playing to be honest
i can either quit playing, or invest a huge amount of both time and effort to try and get better
if i quit, i'll feel like shit for giving up so easily, if i don't quit, i'll feel like shit because of how much effort this type of game takes
with how terrible i'm feeling after losing like that i really don't think this is the type of game for me...
My therapist gave me "homework": whenever I have negative thoughts, write them down, what type of thought they are, and write a more realistic or logical thought.

If you want to stick with fighting you should look for some resources. Once you learn the basics you can pretty much play any fighting game or at least get the hang of them quickly. Basically just learn fundamentals and you'll be good.
