Yeah I got it was in universe but I didn't know they planned on doing that during the beta. I read that one big book about the development of Half life 1 and 2 though, so I guess it just went over my head somehow.

I'd imagine it be creepy as hell characters and the fact Uboa you don't really expect it, shame it would never even happen with Uboa if the player was messing with the game

Manhacks absolutely scare the shit out of me, more than anything in any horror game, and this doesn't help. I know the idea was scrapped, but I still can't help feeling that they're being controlled by some random person somewhere is hunting me for fun.

Actually, according to Raising the Bar, HL1 was at one point in its development intended to have a very strong horror focus, with only the occasional moment of goofy humour to alleviate the tension.

Actually I think it could happen. I remember hearing that there's a small percentage that Uboa will appear when you turn the light switch off, not by turning it on/off rapidly. Although the percentage is so low I doubt anyone could get it on the first try.

The screen became warped and bloody, and a real video was played of a man being killed by a POV shot, I then figured out it was some kind of a whistle to call out zombies, oddly enough I turned out to be alive, but I looked to be ripped and tore open in places, my character was crying for his life, I then saw a Witch, I snuck up on her and quiet as I could, for some odd reason she heard me and she jumped at me and the screen just became too bloody to make out anything. I knew I was dead, this time the level DID NOT reset.
I was ready to turn off the game when a loud scream played out of my speakers and broke them, it was a picture of me decapitated on the floor with my eyes next to me, then i saw the words You're Next. I feared for my life and deleted the game off of my harddrive for good. [/quote]
