Sometimes when you go out of houses in skyrim dead dragons which you havent kill falls down from the sky. Creepypasta element?
One could make a creepypasta about a fictional Skyrim mod whereby your character is stalked by some creepy fanatic who sends you unsettling letters with a theme of devotion towards you, having a tendancy to pop up in places you can't normally access, sometimes even killing things that you were meant to kill. Kind of like a fusion of the Mysterious Stranger from the Fallout games and the Annoying Fan from Oblivion, only with a sort of creepy vibe to him/her. If it were an actual mod, it could be actually kinda creepy. Maybe the Stalker could have a chance to appear in your house whilst your sleeping, sometimes even placing certain items in different rooms, or even the corpses of whoever the Stalker killed. If you heard things going on downstairs/upstairs, and come down to find things have changed, that'd be the Stalker. I kinda had a very brief feeling of Stalker-ness concerning one time when I went back to Breezehome after I completed one of the first Companions' quests. I saw someone walking around upstairs, and thought it was something unnatural. I went up there only to find that it was just Lydia, since the Companions quest meant that Lydia had been replaced by one of the Companions, so she probably went home to wait for my return, as well as to stand guard over my property.
After seeing the sims thread, I decided to base my story on the sims 1. I think I may have been a bit too wordy with it, but here's the first part:
One late evening I was feeling pretty bored, and didn't have any new games to play. My PC was also pretty shit so I couldn't handle most new games. I was looking through some old games and found a copy of the Sims. Straight away I remembered how much fun I had with this, so I decided I'd try it out and get myself some nostalgia. Unfortunately the game disk was missing, so I figured I'd download a torrent instead. (I already bought the game so what's the harm?) I downloaded one titled "sims special edition". I remember there being "deluxe" editions but no special ones, however I started it up and it seemed to work fine. The Goth family, the Newbie family, they were all there. But there was also one family I didn't recognize. The "Kilton" family. There were no other changes to the town and no game saves from what I could see, just this extra family. I say family, though it was just one man. Maybe this was part of the special edition, or maybe he was always there and it was just slipping my memory. Anyway I decided to create a new family to try things out. I named the guy "Tom Smith" and gave him a wife called "Jane". Not the most imaginative names, but I just wanted to get back into the swing of things. I put them in an empty lot and built them a household, just the basics, a bed, bathroom, kitchen and a bookshelf to keep them entertained. I'd spruce the place up once I got them some jobs and some money. I directed John to the paper to 'look for job', the only job in the paper that day was the classic sim job "test subject" for the science career track. I didn't see Tom as much of a scientist so I decided to look elsewhere. With some remaining household funds I bought a computer to try and look some more, as I remembered they usually have more jobs available online. But again, the only job to come up was "test subject", when I tried to look for another a message appeared stating “there are no more job listings available today”. Since the Smiths needed the cash, I took the job anyway, but I'd wait till tomorrow to check for new jobs for Jane. The Job started tomorrow at 9AM, but first Tom and Jane had to deal with the welcoming party. The usual Mortimer and Bella Goth arrived, along with Bob Newbie, and the new guy "Dr Kilton". It turns out “Dr” was actually his first name, at least I wasn't the only one uncreative with naming sims! Tom welcomed them in, did the usual pleasantries and Jane made a group meal for everyone. I noticed the other guests kept “shoo-ing” the Dr away, trying to make him leave, and when he refused they did the crying animation. I guess there was some data saved on here after all, and the Dr had some existing bad relationships with the neighbours. The Dr also went around looking at objects in the house (just like Sims in the household would normally do when you first purchase something). But sims often did odd stuff like this so I didn't think too much of it. Soon it got late, and everyone left without much else interesting happening. A bit later though, as the Smiths slept, I suddenly heard the "warning music". If you played the Sims as a kid, you'll remember when something bad happened, such as losing your job or a raccoon getting in your trash, a short, creepy piece of music would play. This is the best clip I could find of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4djJULQHnR0&feature=related At first I assumed at this time of night it must be a burglar, but upon looking outside, I saw none other than Dr Kilton walking up the driveway.
Once the semeseter ends and I have some free time, I'll track down a GBA and a copy of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and write something on that.
So, if we're going to do this -snip-
So, if we're going to do this candle cove thing, we need to figure out a game and an angle.
What's something everyone here has played? I've got a lot of newer games since my TV wouldn't work with an NES or anything, so we can't really do a sprite-based one like the Godzilla story.

If it was a multiplayer valve game, would we bother making a custom map?
If it was a multiplayer valve game, would we bother making a custom map?
Depends how popular we want this to be. If we make a good and convincing map that fits the description of the story, I'd imagine that extra step would make us stand out a good deal against all the other creepypastas. Depends if anyone in here's a good mapper. Also, I suggest that we do HL2: E2 for the game itself.
how about hl2 deathmatch
-snip-
a multiplayer mod would be a bit cliche, the mod part that is
Or a multiplayer mod for HL2.
obsidian conflict it's multiplayer, mildly popular, and has a plethora of custom maps
So the other day i was walking down the street when -snip-
it'd -snip-
it's harder to -snip-
I still think hl2 deathmatch would work. It's simple, its a bit aged, and its in the placid state of "everyone knows it and nobody plays or cares" that I think works well for creepypastas
it's harder to act than to write
It could be mostly prescripted for those bits. It would just need to look real when it's seen later. [editline]19th January 2012[/editline]
I still think hl2 deathmatch would work.
it's harder to act than to write
Eh, we could give it a go. I won't be able to talk at all though, so I guess the stories will have to take place over multiple sittings if we made some of them as videos. So we could have various groups of players who play the game at random intervals with other people, and the videos would cover parts of these games. I really think it could work. It isn't even necessary that everyone talks, just one or two people - the rest can be in chat, like you'd expect a group of gamers to do.

Plus, it seemed to get the Haunted OoT one really popular. Also, since the atmosphere in any custom map would probably be pretty dark, we could likely get away with a lot less detail in it then we'd normally need.
as far as mapping goes, i used to do mapping for a failed source mod a friend was working on, so i might be able to crank out something suitably amateur - scripting and bugfixing would have to be someone else's ballpark, though.

I guess it would really depend on what's needed for the story...

It may be that we need someone with particular mapping skill. I was thinking of the map begininng as being fairly amatuerish, but as the videos go on it becomes progressively more detailed and unnerving, and the players thus become more and more scared. Does that sound like a good idea? I don't want to stray into the "omg the games killin me bro" area, but I can't really think of a way to do anything other than a bunch of asshats walking around a dark room with these vids otherwise. I guess it would really depend on what's needed for the story...
If we're lucky we might be able to get an admin to coordinate most of the scares, like what Spike and Barley did with Afraid of Monsters. We'll certainly get some genuine scares then, but Cocyx was notably intelligent in the way he scared the two - I doubt we could really replicate it as well.

Does that sound like a good idea?
I was actually having the same thought, where it would start out looking like just a normal map some newbie made, dev textures and jagged displacements, then slowly improve, but with the creepy stuff happening at first looking like just mistakes he made due to lack of experience, like doors that open/close with no one there, while slowly becoming more creepy and more obviously intended to scare. EDIT: If we make this, we need to have something that flings a skeleton at the player at some point.

Personally I think it'd be cooler if it started off detailed and professional-looking, getting more and more basic and unfinished as it goes on, as if the mapper was getting more and more desperate over time as he worked on it.
Go -snip- yourself.
we should at least -snip-
We could also have it -snip-, like Radiator and The Stanley Parable did, where the -snip- to see.

If we go with my idea it's like the mapper was becoming more and more driven by some unnatural force that was raising his skills as it became necessary. But if we go with yours, it's like the mapper was totally insane and had to finish the map at all costs. So, should we take the supernatural route (), opening up the venue for more scares, or go with the more comprehensible but more limiting idea ()?
