Jesus fucking christ the second season of Chihayafuru was chockfull of flashbacks and repeat of the end of the previous episode in the beginning of the new episode. It even had [B]2 recap episodes[/B] which is fucking insane for a 25 episode show.
It should have been a 21-22 episode show instead and remove all of that bloated unnecessary waste of time. When you have to skip several minutes of certain episodes it's bad. It's not like it's just a bother either, the flashbacks completely kills the mood by dragging it all out. In one episode the same flashback scene was repeated 3 times within like... 3-5 minutes.
Speaking of dragging things out, this season sure as fuck managed to do that a lot of times. So much talking and reacting all the fucking time, backstories for unnecessary people, keep comparing situations to the King or Queen just to have some sliding keyframes for 50 bazillion years. Guh.
The first season had a handful of flashbacks, observational talks and dragging out, but at least it was tasteful and to the point. I never felt like it was wasting my time or showing me something that was there purely to stretch the budget. Really can't say the same for S2.
It still held a lot of the strong qualities of season 1 though, so it's an 8/10 (compared to season 1's 9/10), although it almost feels like a 7 at this point, but that's the emotional-just-finished-and-started-ranting side of me speaking.
