This is true, I like vocaloid a lot but it's rather telling when almost any vocaloid song is improved significantly by having it be covered by a nico singer.
Technology holds back a lot of the vocaloids too, like Miku, Gumi and IA sound a billion times better than some of the ones who haven't really been updated.

IA's songs also tend to sound pretty good even without as much care/post process work that the other vocaloids require (also My Soul Your Beat's singer is the voicebank source for IA so lol)

The vocals of Vocaloid songs just make me want to listen to an actual person sing it because we're still not at a point where synthesized voices are fluid and smooth sounding.
