IF COMPETITIVE AND DRAMA ARE THE SAME FUCKING THING THEN WHAT'S THE POINT
COMPETITIVE IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT PEOPLE COMPETING AND PLAYING A GAME
DRAMA IS ABOUT DRAMA
SO THEREFORE COMPETITIVE SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON THINGS FOCUSING ON THE GAME, RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON THE DRAMA
WHY AM I YELLING
Oh, that's right, because dgg drags it down to semantics and idiotic technicalities whenever anybody has the sense to say that.
I have answered it several times, I'm sorry that you skipped that part over and over again.
I edited that out for a reason you know.
[editline]5th November 2014[/editline]
And stop using sportsdrama as a term. You can't just string together something like that and treat it seriously.
dgg should be in the drama category
dgg, I am having to argue furiously like this because nobody else is stupid enough to get into an extended argument with you. This is a testament to how stupid arguing with you is, everybody cannot be fucked dealing with you.
[editline]5th November 2014[/editline]
I'm glad I have this avatar, it's basically a fairly accurate representation of my expression whenever I look at dgg's posts.
no ping pong's drama is styled as a sport but is actually NOT ABOUT IT, this what we're trying to say, chihayafuru's sports drama is about the sport itself, ping pong's is about the CHARACTERS PLAYING THE SPORT.
the sports drama of chihayafuru can't exist without the sport, but ping pong is just themed around ping pong as a METAPHOR for character mentality that could be anything else, the sport is irrelevant.
I think you're misunderstanding heavily if you think I'm saying the drama is about the sport. I'm saying the drama comes from the sport.
Chihayafuru's drama comes from the sport, and then it also has drama that is irrelevant to the sport, the love drama.
Ping-Pong is character drama that is reflected through the sport, and the circumstances that caused the drama is the sport itself.
Guys
settle it
in pong
I'm gonna say it again.
Sports being linked to the drama is irrelevant. You can push sportsdrama over and over at me and list as many shows and comparisons as you want but that doesn't change that you are acknowledging that it is a drama.
This isn't about sports, this isn't about genre restrictions, this isn't about any of that bullshit. Ping Pong is focused on character drama. Therefore I vote for it in the drama category. That is the end of the fucking line and it's an idiotic double standard to refuse it entry.
You lose nothing by allowing people to vote for Ping Pong in either competitive or drama. This is such a ridiculous non-issue that I cannot understand why you have made it such a big deal.
And don't you fucking dare try to go "no, you're making it a big deal :^)".

wait, haven't you been saying that ping pong's drama comes entirely from the characters for pages now? don't try and change your wording to seem like you're right.

And again your argument is self-defeating. The source of the drama is the sport. But it's still character drama. So it belongs in drama just as much as competitive.
Riddle me this, dgg:
WHY
CAN
WE
NOT
HAVE
BOTH
CATEGORIES
AS
AN
OPTION
Why can it not qualify for both competitive and drama when you keep saying that it's a character drama
Putting it in the drama category does to make it not a sports anime. It also does not make it not a valid option for competitive. Why do you refuse it entry? Why? Answer that. Don't give me anything else like you keep doing. I don't want to hear about other shows or settings or sources of drama or anything.
Why can't it go in both. Give me a reason why. Anything getting away from this is bullshit that will be ignored until you give me an adequate answer. You keep trying to dance around it. Stop doing your jig and answer the fucking question.
[editline]5th November 2014[/editline]
Let's just get it over with before this drags out any longer, okay? I want to talk about anime besides Ping Pong and categories. I can't see how this could go on much longer.
Also you guys should all watch Zegapain, it's really good and has minimal mecha focus despite being a mecha show. I'd only call it a mecha by technicality since they have little focus and are just kinda there as a weapon, it's more general sci-fi and psychological. Really unique take on the matrix concept.
I kinda kept wanting to use it as an example in my argument but I never got around to it but I really like that show and nobody has watched it. Go watch it.

No, competetive and drama isn't the same thing.
Competetive is sportsdramas and shows with a competetive core to them. Ping Pong, Kaiji, Chihayafuru, Hajime no Ippo, Initial D, Prince of Tennis
Drama is dramas, shows about difficult circumstances and events in life that characters have to handle and hopefully overcome. Clannad, Steins;Gate, Kokoro Connect, Space Brothers.
I'm gonna say it again.

Sports being the core reason the drama exists is hugely relevant, that's why the sports genre exists to begin with, to define sportsdramas. I have always been acknowledging it as a character-drama, all sports shows are character-dramas.
If sports shows weren't character dramas they would just be showcasing matches with random people that you don't care about, like channel surfing sports channels on the TV. The sports genre exists to seperate a sports show from a drama show, because they're both dramas, but they are different kind of dramas. (again, supernatural/fantasy)
Yes, you voted for it in the drama category, and that would have been fine had it been officially recognized as a drama, but because the drama exclusively originates from the sport, and the sport reflects on the characters drama, it is a sportsdrama.
I lose everything by allowing people to vote for Ping Pong in drama because it's not where it belongs. It would be giving it special privileges that I have given no other show that doesn't belong to the category. And for what reason? Because you disagree but can't convince me otherwise? Because you think a thematic difference between the fantasy elements in Supernatural and Fantasy is huge enough to warrant two completely different categories but the difference between the drama in a sports show and the drama in a drama show is too small? Because you personally think sports shows should be more about the actual sport itself and not about the characters competing in the sport?
Yes, Ping Pong is more character driven and deals less with the actual sport itself than many other sport shows, I completely agree. However the sport remains the central theme, binding point and reason for their drama and self-exploration and self-understanding about themselves and their reason to, well, live.
wait, haven't you been saying that ping pong's drama comes entirely from the characters for pages now? don't try and change your wording to seem like you're right.
It's a sportsdrama, a sportsdrama is character drama that originates from the sport. All shows labeled as a sports shows are character dramas that takes drama from the sport. That's why the classification exists to begin with, that's why it's it's own genre. The genre specifically singles out dramas that are character dramas that derives from a sport.
WHY CAN WE NOT HAVE BOTH CATEGORIES AS AN OPTION
- Because it is not officially labelled as a drama. It is only labeled as a sports show, because that's exactly what it is. A character drama with it's drama only derived from the sport, and reflected through the sport.
When you're saying you "don't want to hear about settings or sources of drama or anything" when you want an answer to why it can't go into both genres, then you are also asking to not get the answer to why it can't go into both genres. That's the fucking answer, it's what makes it a sports show and not a drama-
You're both shitting up the thread with the dumbest argument in months so shut the fuck up please
So ultimately it just comes down to you being overly anal about how it's listed on MAL and ANN. Your ridiculous opinion and argument was just coincidental. I bet you'd be more than willing to bend the genre rules if you wanted it in the category though.
Fucking pack it up folks, this was a tremendous waste of time. What thrillingly stupid end to this saga.

Mecha or Fantasy, obviously. I'm leaning towards Fantasy because that sounds like there'd be more adventures.

Also dgg, can you stop spelling "competitive" as "competetive"? I've notified you of this error several times and you keep doing it.

Bad habits are hard to change.
Good to see Fast Anime hasn't changed
I've concluded from this argument that dgg is a Vogon and that's why he can't be held to the same logical coherency standards as a human being.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy anime when.
Gonna get another episode of Akatsuki no Yona down tomorrow, the show has been slow-paced but pretty good so far. Anybody else watching it?

I keep checking this thread to see if the voting results are here, but we just keep getting those lengthy arguments whether about supernatural sci-fi sports dramas.
I probably am not in a position to complain, though.

When Zombii's votes are there, that's when everybody's votes have been tallyed up and the results are in, except for the people that have not re-voted or withdrawn an incorrect vote.

Let's make it a public opinion poll then.
If you think that Ping Pong should be valid in both Drama and Competitive, rate agree. If you think it should be restricted to just Competitive, vote disagree.
This is kinda pointless and I imagine ton of people won't bother voting but I'm interested in seeing the results. I'll check this post again in 24 hours.

This is serious business. The most serious. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Ping Pong is the only thing I could think of to put in my drama category.

That could be intentional seeing how Empty_Shadow also has it in 20th Century. Care to explain?
