Psycho-Pass is better than Ghost In The Shell
i think i need to go lay down
what an impartial judge wow the sanctity of the voting process has been sullied by bias in the vote collector i'm going to have to take over as vote-counter, there's clearly been some miscounting in some sections
orkel can you just close the thread so we can get someone with decent taste as the op kind of like how you did with me and the wot thread all those times
Ugh, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita has Outbreak Company syndrome written all over it, albeit not nearly as bad of a case and still infinitely more valid. If anybody wants some salt on their meal just come right over here, I can help you with that.
Waaaa why can't the OP always stay the same. It's good for stuff to rotate in and out, GitS will always be amazing scifi and nearly everyone knows about it so I don't really see a problem with something else getting the spotlight for a while. I'm a little sad nanoha didn't get any votes other than me, I guess I'm just a faggot though so myeah. Also why KlK is under wtf japan I'll never understand, the clothing gimmick kinda wears off after a few episodes, and that's honestly the only weird thing about it.
Oh well, I tried. You can only do so much when you're working with plebs. Can't ask people to vote for what they haven't seen. And that's only the headliners anyway. It's not like it's not being in the top three means you don't get in at all. But really? Chaika over Berserk, or Juuni Kokuki, or Seirei no Moribito? I could go on.
go make an official "reds list of anime for fantasy spergs" if you want then this isn't a "these are objectively the best anime for this category" list, it's a list of recommendations from people in the thread for people new to anime who want something to watch most people that are using the OP are going to be new to anime and would probably want something newer. chaika being new has nothing to do with it being better/worse than anything else. also twelve kingdoms would probably be absolutely boring for most people new to anime. it's slow to start and the art/animation has aged pretty badly. it's certainly still as good as ever but i wouldn't recommend it to someone new to anime sry tbh i still think dgg could append this list he's tallying up to the beginning of the OP votes so someone can see all of the recommendations if they want to even if they only got one vote
i have less of a problem with it leaving the OP as i do with someone trying to tell me that psycho-pass is better than ghost in the shell
Both are good though? This isn't a top 3 ranking, it's just an OP with examples that are good for people to watch in certain genres.

When the voting process comes down to a bunch of plebs who have hardly watched anything in the genre unless it's seasonal, it kinda breaks that concept. It really fucking bothers me to see great shows be pushed out of the way by virtue of nobody watching them. Fantasy is pretty much the only category to suffer from this since it's the least watched. Other reasons include stuff like lots of people here watching predominantly seasonal stuff and lots of comedies and high school stuff and all that sort of thing. You aren't wrong in the slightest for liking this stuff but it causes a problem when the genre you don't watch comes knocking. Newer doesn't automatically mean entry level. Out of my nominations I'd push Berserk the hardest as an entry level fantasy anime, for example.
You just reminded me that I need to read the manga, especially since the story progresses further than in the anime.
There's like 43 volumes over all, out of which only 7 are translated (the anime ends at 7). The latest translations came out in april 2013 and february 2014. It's never going to get fully done. If you want to know how the Zipang manga ends in the last volume, here's the massive spoilers: [sp] *Yamato sinks with a nuke on board after getting hit in its magazine by two missiles fired by the Mirai *The nuke explodes in the bottom of the ocean, causing no significant damage, but is enough to warn the Americans the Japanese has nuclear capabilities *Mirai is lost with all hands after a single stray hit by a shell fired from the American ships, the remaining crew are presumed dead drifing at sea and deliberately not rescued by either the Japs or Yanks *IJN commander dude (Yamamoto) dies after getting dragged into the bottom of the sea in a vortex created by the sinking Yamato, already suffering from a massive head injury during the explosion of the magazine *JDF commander dude (Yosuke) lives but is crippled, he is picked up by the Americans, and does a deal with them after having been convinced by IJN dude (Kusaka) before he died to help his cause to build "Zipang", knowing that he can no longer return to his own time since he technically cannot exist as his own father "died" as a child as an indirect result of the Mirai's existence *The 1944 section of the story ends as JDF dude is transported to Washington on a stretcher on board a B-29 *Story the flashes forward to 1957 in Nantucket Island, JDF dude is now a very rich man through guiding America with his knowledge of the European theatre, and profiting from the post-war boom, though he is wheelchair bound. It is 13 years since the Japan-American peace treaty and 10 years since the formation of the Pan-Pacific Treaty Organisation (think NATO), Japan has agreed to give back all colonies and lands annexed, Mainland Japan has not been attacked and is prosperous as we know it. The pro-war factions of the army and the navy, as well as the government are ousted from power (over just 1 page - a bit simplistic) and the Japanese military is reformed and becomes the JDF in 1945 *Story then flashes forward briefly to 1970, JDF dude returns to Japan, one of the ex-IJN commanders that helped the cause is running for Prime Minister *Story then flashes to 200X at the christening ceremony of the Mirai, a bigger, more advanced ship than the original, JDF dude, now an old geezer, has his staff gather information about his ex-crew members, who are all crew members of the new Mirai, and finally realises why only he gets to survive from the original Mirai - you cannot have two of the same person existing at the same time. So his father dies as a kid and he would not be born in this alternate timeline, while the rest of the crew all "die" before so they can be born again 20-30 later as history intended. The crew members, even though they don't know JDF dude, somehow gets the strange sensation that someone is missing among them *The story ends as the old man waves goodbye to the Mirai on its originally-fateful journey, only this time, it suffers no mishap on its way and reaches its destination for the joint military exercise with the American Navy - only the old man knows how things could have turned out [/sp]

After looking at how many things I was the only person to vote for, I realize just how shit my taste really is.
i have less of a problem with it leaving the OP as i do with someone trying to tell me that psycho-pass is better than ghost in the shell
You do realize we are talking about the TV series right? Now the movies? But the TV series? The one that's really good, but generally just presents different ways of life, and the possible difficulties in a technologically advanced future? Whilst Psycho-Pass is also really good but keeps the show more focused on one particular possible danger of the future, a system that judges humans and tries to decide what is good and bad. Like a much more advanced HAL 3000. GitS: SAC S2 and Psycho Pass S1 are both clear 9/10's for me, but Psycho Pass delivers a more focused singular story with a greater question at hand, a question that isn't even answered. Sadly I can't even properly remember what the whole Stand Alone Complex was about, I know I enjoyed it a greatly, but I don't feel it hit home as well as Sibyl did.
I was thinking here that i could write a PHP + SQL page to vote. It would easen and mostly automate voting process. But even IF i did suck siten, i'd have no place to host it. (Not using my University servers for this)
Tbh i still think dgg could append this list he's tallying up to the beginning of the OP votes so someone can see all of the recommendations if they want to even if they only got one vote
The OP has every vote in it that had 2 or more votes though. Singular votes are just too thin to warrant a placement in the OP. It's supposed to be a list of recommandations that everyone can to some extent stand behind. With two people voting for the same thing there is a certain security to the vote, that the opinion that it's a good watch for the genre can be shared by others as well, not just the one person that voted for it. And that isn't even close to everything that is weird about it. It really deserves to be there, especially if someone hasn't watched a ton of anime prior to it.
Last or First, Titopei, Winner, Zombii and Trunk Monkay are the only ones remaining, I'll go over those tomorrow and fix up all the errors, check that every vote is present, correct and counted for. Yours is like this atm: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NsIH67vd4T7X9HXZyK7Y8d59SoSb7HoFdcRnF7mdgbc/pubhtml You can't copy tables, it's 100x worse than copying text on the forum.
yea i meant the raw google docs spreadsheet as a link
I understood that but don't understand the need. The OP has all the links except for the ones with 1 vote because they don't deserve to be in the OP.

wow people actually voted for little witchia academy in the movie section? Its like a 23 minute indie ova; why even bother?
wow people actually voted for little witchia academy in the movie section? Its like a 23 minute indie ova; why even bother?
Because it was good.
I understood that but don't understand the need. The OP has all the links except for the ones with 1 vote because they don't deserve to be in the OP.
when voting we only get a spot for 3 anime per category, and i normally have to trim off multiple per category so the ones i actually do vote for i actually had to selectively choose which ones i thought fit best. i'd assume most people do the same at least in a few categories and just because 2 people don't vote for it doesn't mean that someone didn't think that "damn i really think people should watch this for X category" so at least being able to browse through a concise recommendation list could be helpful even if only one person has seen/voted for it. if something doesn't get two votes it either means "it's shit and that person who voted for it is dumb" or "not many people have seen it but it's probably good enough to spend one of their recommendation slots on" i'll just save the link when you're done i guess?? i just thought it would be trivial to add a small link to it in case anyone was curious on the hard data that went into the OP
Because it was good.
yea i dont disagree but its not even a movie. its not even close to movie length [editline]5th November 2014[/editline] dgg can you make a new section real quick, for fantasy-sport-drama-OVA's-that-are-one-shots-like-movies-but-not-movie-length?
