Unstable? How so?
The only problems I've had with it are related to MAL itself fucking with the way it works, obviously borking up the updater as a result.
Almost everyone who claims updating MAL is a chore is just lazy as hell

mal is way too handy i can't count the times my weeb friends who don't have mal forget animes they've seen or can't remember their names and then search around for them for hours and never finding them

I've been using MAL for while now and the site never gave me any problems.
i don't use mal because then you'd see all of my shit taste

With malupdater there's really no excuse to not use mal, not even lazyness. if you don't like malupdater use taiga, it's a good alternative.
The only thing not having a mal/anilist/hummingbird does is make it fuckin hard for other people to recommend you shit cause we have no way of knowing what you've seen and how you liked it.

There's 2 stories with small children wearing gas masks and having fun in the slums of some city.
1 story about a marksman that ends up starting a family while waiting for his target to arrive.
1 story about a prostitute and her life.
It's pretty graphic stuff if that helps, please post if you remember either title or artist :)

you might have been unlucky and installed it during one of the times mal broke it by changing how their api worked, you could also try Taiga, that works pretty good too but it lacks some features.
