a re-rendition of Butterfly would be cool
Might be. If this thing ends up full slice of life then I have no goddamn idea who they're trying to appeal to. Now, obviously they're appealing to the now older demographic that was watching it back then, but if you're going to be watching Digimon wouldn't you be expecting an action-adventure show? Of course, we still don't know shit about what's it's going to be about. It's just a confusing situation to me. In other news, I don't even know what's going on with Hunter X Hunter's setting anymore.
Well yeah but if it was as simple as just buying larger paper I'm sure they'd do it already They're not stupid
It is as simple as buying larger paper. It's just that they use paper that is expensive, so larger paper is obviously even more expensive, now count all the frames needed for a single paper and multiply that with the cost and you have a huge price difference. How the fuck it matters when you get a more than large enough resolution on a 300dpi scan (should of course be scanned at 600) is beyond me. Why the fuck do they even work at a 720p or sub 1080p resolution? It's so retarded. [editline]13th December 2014[/editline] Catching up on Amagi Brilliant Park, so I'm in the middle of ep 10 and... How does the explanation of the curse on latifa change anything? [sp]Everybody dies if the castle is shut down because they won't be generating animus. Latifa has a curse that drains her of animus meaning she can die even if animus is generated as long as it's not enough. So why the hell did the closing of the park suddenly become a bigger deal to Kanye? I restate, EVERYBODY WILL DIE IF THE PARK CLOSES AND HE ALREADY KNEW THAT. Now that he knows that her animus gets drained even when the park is up he's worried because she will die if the park closes. BUT THAT WOULD HAPPEN EVEN WITHOUT THE CURSE[/sp] I don't get it, I don't get it at all. Or well, I guess it's the fact that [sp]the others could get a job as entertainers but she couldn't, but, eh, many of them would still probably die, and the others would be living on the edge every day[/sp]

The reason they'd need larger paper is because they want a detail level in the art that matches the resolution, I guess. Line thickness and such. The thing is, if you start buying larger paper to animate on then you'll need to buy a bunch of new stuff for the animators, as their pegboards and light tables are made for the previous size. And the scanners are probably specialized for that workflow as well. So, it's possible that KyoAni has a special department for OP and feature film animation where they've upgraded their tools and pipeline, and use their older tools for the department that makes most of the broadcast animation. Whichever the case I'm sure upping the resolution is a significant investment for an anime studio and they have legitimate reasons not to. If it was easy and cheap they'd do it already.

That's the shit that bugs the shit out of me. Any other profession and/or country and most people have the brains to work at a much larger resolution than the final resolution, downscaling their render to the intended resolution. There is no reason they couldn't just scan it at 300dpi with lineart quality, giving them the pixelated bucket-fill friendly lineart and work with that. No instead they just absolutely must work at a 720p resolution because they're shot in the head. The only possible reasons I can imagine is: 1) less processor power needed to work with it 2) faster rendering 3) Know exactly what it looks like (no lost detail because downscaling) But just how bad is their equipment if point 1 and 2 applies at all? And again, you clearly don't need the larger paper to make a 1080p version, if they can deliver crisper versions of what is meant for 720p I'm totally down on that. Again, they already upscale their 720p resolutions to 1080p, so what would be so dreadful about just working on their 720p papers for 1080p until they get the upgrade? Just work on a higher resolution scan? It's just pants on the head retarded.

If I've never really watched anime is Spirited Away a good place to start? And is the english version ok?
If I've never really watched anime is Spirited Away a good place to start? And is the english version ok?
Anything that interests you is a good place to start, ghibli are good because the animation is beautiful and the stories are good but if you're interested in other genres you might want to read the OP and pick something from a genre you like. Just don't expect 100% of what you watch to be good because like any medium there's bad stuff, so don't be put off if it happens (if you're watching spirited away though you're probably pretty safe since it's one of the most acclaimed movies of all time)
Spirited Away, while overrated, is a good movie. But it's not really something to get you into anime. English version is okay, like most Miyazaki films, but the original Japanese voices are what the creator intended the characters to sound like. [editline]13th December 2014[/editline] Ghibli films feels more like Disney movies than anime to me
watch princess mononoke its my favorite from all ghibli ones
Laputa is probs my favourite Ghibli movie
watch princess mononoke its my favorite from all ghibli ones
Mononoke was really good, but I don't get why everyone thinks it's the best thing of all time though. Solid animation and story but the character didn't feel that interesting to me. [editline]14th December 2014[/editline]
Laputa is probs my favourite Ghibli movie
Laputa knocks it out of the park imo, great movie.

These people are professionals who work with this every day, obviously they'd make it in a higher resolution if it was as easy as you think it is. Just because you don't understand their process and the logistics behind it it doesn't mean you should call them retarded. Tell you what, I'm visiting Japan again in a few weeks and there's a chance I might be visiting an anime studio. If I get the chance, I'll ask them why they don't do the masters in 1080p.
[sp] Niva was burnt out from the power out put, hell Chiaka was just about dead after that (hence the bed and trouble walking parts). The most logical/implied reason is because Chaika was the original chaika: This is supported because 1. Niva only came online when White Chaika entered the room, only activated fully after tasting chaika's blood from that finger cut thing 2. Most of the 7 knights whom slayed gaz all said they cut off her head or saw her die 3. Vivid memories that no one else has of Gaz's Chaika being slayed Niva turned because she couldn't betray the person she was designed around or her true "master". It could have been made a bit more clear but with a season that was 10 eps instead of 13 I think it implied it well[/sp]
Nope. Chaika s2 spoilers [sp]1. Niva turned on because the 2 chaika's that were in the room were the first chaika's to be in her presence since her completion. 2. They saw a Chaika die, not THE chaika. Gaz had no daughter. The vivid memories she has of it were implanted in her, just as it was implanted in all the others. This was heavily exposed throughout the last few episodes. 3. see above. MC Chaika was not the original chaika. Just before Gaz's death, he see's chaika interfering and says "Hmmm, number 357 eh?" just before Niva switches sides. It's plainly obvious that MC Chaika is not the original[/sp]

Tell you what, I'm visiting Japan again in a few weeks and there's a chance I might be visiting an anime studio. If I get the chance, I'll ask them why they don't do the masters in 1080p.
Their valid reason is most likely just point 1&/or2 coupled with the idea that they want bigger paper to get the right line-weight and detail in their artwork for a 1080p resolution. I'm sure they work directly on their broadcast resolution because it's the fastest way to work, making it more likely to reach their deadlines, still doesn't make it not retarded for me. I don't need to understand the logistics, and I understand the process. I don't know their specific workflow (and it surely will differ from company to company), but I know what they're doing and how to do what they do, there is nothing magical about movie or animation production, it's just a lot of hard work from a lot of different people. Whatever their reasoning it will always remain retarded to me, because it is literally as simple as scanning and working at a higher resolution. Further changes (paper size, tables, etc) is only necessary if they want to take advantage of the detail 1080p allows them to use, not to create a 1080p production in general.

World Trigger's OP is very slowly approaching the start of the show with each episode. A few episodes back it was a bit past the middle, but now it's at 7 minutes in. Maybe it'll be at 4 minutes in by the end of this season.
Yeah, I got that, but remake what? What are you talking about?
You're getting the joke wrong, you're supposed to pretend Tsukihime adaption doesn't exist, not the VN. In their first post they don't even mention the anime. Sorry for ruining your meme.
Caught up with Akame ga Kill manga. Man the anime could have been so good.
Hunter X Hunter has a weird aversion to fights. 25 episodes in and there's been barely any actual fights, and most action sequences are extremely brief or curb-stomps. Whenever they do a typical setup for fights they bypass or skip them entirely.
madan no ou to vanadis ep11 and the award for the most absolutely pointless censoring of the year goes to....
