I still stand by the fact that it wasn't overly terrible but it certainly didn't live up to S1. I liked some key points in the anime however the way they brought out those points was just really strange and badly executed.
The lack of side character screen time was also disappointing although it was only 11 eps long so I guess they didn't have much time to give them more time to shine.
If PP2 was a side story/spin-off I really wouldn't be surprised. The overall premise wasn't as strong as PP1 I feel.

it would have been good if
1. They didn't throw away 90% of the world building and character development that they did in s1. Seriously they threw all logical thought out the window, [sp]I liked Akane in S1 because it was like she got caught up in a bad place and had to choose what she thought the lesser of 2 evils was thus giving the characters some sense of personality and depth. S2 just threw all that shit out the window and was like "nah fuck that let's mind control people and be evil to be evil"[/sp]
2. The dominator was completely ruined [sp]it was cool when they used it sparingly in S1 because they liked it as a last resort and also had a specific limitation, not something that can grow to the size of a small car and pew pew everything.[/sp]
3. All the newly added characters are dolls, they have 0 emotion and if you said their names I probably couldn't tell you how they differ from one another other than "that guy is more assholish that the other one"
4. No real motivation to do anything other than "I must do what needs to be done by me to defeat the enemies!" S1 had actual motivation because we got to see some of the bad guy using people and others trying to stop him, then we realized why he was using proxies and his end goal made sense, thus making earlier episodes make sense. S2? [sp]I dunno something about advanced mind control, raising some really evil kid to be evil, or something?[/sp]
PP2 just feels like they didn't have any story boarding time and just made the episodes as they were requested.

So I just ordered the Love Live S1 premium blu-ray set from NIS America. It comes with a bonus poster. It doesn't ship until January though. I guess that's my Christmas gift to myself.

the concept of a collective psycho pass and its implications for society was actually fairly interesting but that was about it
S1 was the exploration into the dystopic world governed by sybil, state vs. the individual, where the benefits are obvious, but the faults show themselves as sybil is forced to deal with abnormal cases as the story progresses. a fundamental questioning of its right to judge is explored through smaller events such as:
-akane's inability to bear the weight of the decision to kill makishima with an actual rifle, despite him holding her friend hostage
-kagari's backstory of how his life was taken away from him at age 5 because of his psycho pass reading
-ginoza and his father's past
and makishima was an antagonist where you often were forced to agree with parts of what he stands for
plus, you had actual character depth and akane's unit actually felt like cohesive and competent.
S2's characters felt cheap and expendable, with no depth added to them at all. shimotsuki is "im going to be a blatantly obvious minor antagonist" who can't wait to share that she thinks akane is always wrong, and you just know her shit is going to hit the fan from like episode 1. her entire existence is a shittly written, paper thin tragic heroine, the audience absolutely fails to emphasize with her character's gradual breakdown because she's such a bitch from the start
any of the new members in akane's unit could have been killed and i would not have given two shits
tougane's motives were rushed so badly he went from an interesting character to BOOM backstory oh he's dead already
S1 creates moral dilemmas that leave it up to the viewer to decide who's wrong and who's right.
S2 decides to cover up its lack of ethical/moral explorations by just throwing gore at the viewer and making clear cut distinctions between who's good and who's bad
oh look so many peopre dying soooo terribre
also how akane's grandmother is literally shoehorned in and gets 15 seconds of screen time at episode 8 to become a plot device at episode 10

its a decent stand-alone cyberpunk crime story thats just molded into the universe of psycho pass and never grows enough balls to adventure further
