It's pretty bad IMO. Only redeeming quality about the show is the production quality, which is actually quite high.
It's one of those 'dumb shows' you can watch. Like Transformers.
Is SAO2 better or worse than SAO1?
I really liked SAO myself. Granted it's a really stupid self-insert gary stu fanfiction power/wish-fulfillment fantasy but that's also why it was fun to watch.

I mean if you liked the first season, the second season is just more of it.
It does start to get [i]really[/i] boring in the later part of it though. As soon as the adventure ends and they just start going around like some boring slice-of-life show.
Honestly I liked the first arc of SAO2, just like I liked the first arc of SAO1.
Though the second arc of SAO2 is better than that of the second arc of SAO1, It's still not great.

I am willing to forgive them for not putting a terribly high amount of detail into a scene involving what would otherwise be a billion lines. It's not even meant to be high detail, as shown by Marie then being in the comedic low-detail art style when they look into the room.
Of the things to complain about with Deen this is not one of them. Quit searching for reasons to be upset at the animation and look at the actual QUALITY in the episodes.

If I wanted to be butthurt, I could go dissect each episode and pull screenshots of all the scenes where everything is ridiculously underdetailed and everything is colored using the fill tool in MS paint. Because it is most certainly there and this adaptation, animation wise, is awful.
I was pointing out this scene in particular because literally everything in it, characters included (even when they're not in their ~hilarious~ cartoony form) are all ridiculously under detailed.

The quality of the animation is sufficient, does not have any massive glaring problems that immediately jump out, and does not detract to my experience in any way

If you don't like it them whatever but its a little tiring to hear somebody yell "it's shiiiiiiiit" all the time and start nitpicking or having double standards because they want to complain about Deen.
At the same time i understand why some of you are so bothered, but at the same time i don't understand why you are that bothered so much. Log horizon is not animation reliant anyway.
It basically bothered me for 1 episode and then i just got used to it and enjoy anime itself. It's still log horizon.

I know South Park is done in Maya, so I do have to ask- what do anime studios [I]actually[/I] use? I can't imagine it being Photoshop or Flash, there's probably some obscure $6000 software suite out there
I think that one of purpose of changing the drawing style in S2 is making a noticeable artstyle distinction between the virtual and real world.

Its not an art style shift between seasons, just some character redesigns.
The part where we saw the real world art style was very detailed though, Deen must have pulled out their one good animator for it.

I quite liked the fact that real world is really detailed compared to game world.
I assumed it was to show that the game world and real world are different.
