Honest question why is the anime community always so hostile when giving out recommendations? If you ask an avid movie fan for recommendations they'll chuck a couple titles your way but when you ask anime fans for some recommendations they always turn you away like anime is some sacred ground that only they deserve to touch. Is it because anime watchers are all usually socially inept or something?

Sure, many of them probably are, but even if they are, is it a problem? Isn't it good that they can beat it off to imaginary drawings that caused no molestation or harm?
/a/ would have recommendation threads banned due to otherwise getting a million of them from every palooka to come along asking them what to watch instead of looking it up for themselves.
A smaller board like /m/ doesn't outlaw recommendation threads, for instance.

No one's being hostile here, but you haven't really given people all that much to work with for giving recommendations. Literally the only thing we can do with the info given is point you towards a list of (fairly generic and broad) must-watch/high recommended or intro anime which is basically what dgg did. The main issue with that though is that it's literally listed in the first post so it's mildly redundant.
Has Orkel ever given a reason why we don't have "read the OP before asking for recommendations" in the thread title other than "eh fuck it"?

I don't know how you can condone degeneracy so easily. Being attracted to children is a disease. Human instincts dictates that we should reproduce and yet prepubescent children aren't yet ready to reproduce. Just because it's drawn doesn't make it okay. It'll come to a point where there lust will overflow and they won't be satisfied with just drawings anymore.
