I don't understand this OP at all. It's so unfitting and "cool".
I'm also sort of sad to see that there will be more people introduced that work there.
I think just having this lone person running the whole place is part of the charm of the whole concept. This one bartender that lets people learn themselves (and/or their partner) truly before being passed their final judgment, sending them to heaven or hell.
And why did they have to say who went where in the after-credits scene? One of the greatest parts of the one-shot was that who went where wasn't clear, where the symbols on the lifts just there for the symbolism or where they also indications of the road? Can both parties go to heaven or hell or is it always one to each? Those kind of things should be kept mysterious and up to the viewer, don't just fucking tell us.
Looking over the director I noticed that he was the one doing the script for the one-shot, but he didn't do it for the TV series, that explains a lot.
Well at least they kept the (Death Whatever)[sp]room full of corpses[/sp] they had in the OVA.

dgg I think you're being overly negative, I know you do that but I really didn't see anything to complain about in that episode it seemed perfectly fine. (not fine as in the mal rating of 6, fine as in no problems). and you might have forgotten but the dark haired woman was in the oneshot as well.

First ep of Egypt arc for the Stardust Crusader arc (I fucking hate sequels with parts, they are awkward to refer to) was p boring.
Half of the episode was "hey, a dog". The OP was like some sort of 4chan sing-along-gathering, worst one yet, the visuals were really boring as well, and the ED was just somebody randomly hitting the keys on a keyboard with some egypt-sounding instruments.
The whole hearing sound vibrations but somehow not hearing them talk was the dumbest shit of all.
You don't need to rewatch the OVA or even watch it to begin with to start on the show.

No real need, it's just another episode running the same concept.
Everything you need to know about it is brought up in the episode, it's not some sort of a sequel, just more of the same.

Mushishi guy was the one doing the talking. Did she actually even do anything in the one-shot? Wasn't she just some sort of background character that greeted people and then stood behind mushishi man and then that was it?

I don't see how the cover is relevant to her presence in the show. It's not a DVD that I bought so I could have memories of looking at the image, it's just an image on MAL for that one time I looked at it 3 years ago.

He can hear them from 4km away [sp]by sticking a crane down in the sande[/sp] but can't hear the vibration cause from their voice, yes, that sounds reasonable.
He could even hear the dog sleeping, yet couldn't hear them shout when laying down on the sand.
