Indeed I didn't. But then FA was unanimously saying it was great so I tried it and it was good.
Just like how I haven't started on Parasyte yet but I definitely plan to catch up.
I blame synopsis writers.
Christ on a cracker the first episode of Saenai is the most generic thing I ever did see. I get that it's sort of the point, but even their attempts at being subversive were really trite.
Edit: That being said it's only been like 1 episode if one doesn't count the OVA, so it's probably unfair to dismiss it already.

ookami shoujo, kimi ni todoke, even tonari no kaibutsu-kun are better shoujo then ao haru ride.

my statement is completely subjective, I didn't mean to say mine was the only opinion, I just liked them a lot more.
You might want to check out lovely complex and koukou debut (manga only sadly) as well, those were good shoujo.

I liked Ao Haru Ride but not as much as some other Shoujos.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is done. 8/10.
Even managed to elicit some bitch tears. Good show. Next up, Scrapped Princess.
Favourite of 2014? Ping Pong The Animation.
One of 3 titles that got a 9/10 out of me. (Ping Pong, Mushishi Zoku Shou, Harmonie)
According to Malgraph, my average score for 2014 anime is 6.56, so not a very good year all in all.
Ao Haru Ride just pissed me off. Ookami Shoujo started off the same way, but it got funny as it went on and became much more enjoyable. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun I was just left wondering[sp]if anything had actually happened the whole damn show.[/sp]

the problem with tonari no kaibutsu-kun is it only adapts like, 1 volume of the manga or something crazy like that, so nothing happens, the manga is great though.

I can definitely see the Chaika parallels [sp](exploding chicken)[/sp] but it's also rather different at the same time. The naming convention here is of course, weapons.
It's not bad but the first episode doesn't strike me as particularly amazing either. We'll see how it goes.

shoujo is a demographic not a genre, it's aimed at teenage girls, so it's mostly romance. Like shounen it's used mostly to refer to one subtype of it's demographic, namely shoujo romance.
magical girl shows besides the acceptions like madoka and nanoha are also normally shoujo.
