Okay, you want to avoid chaos, but you want to get a gun for them? 'cause here's what's gonna happen if you get a gun, any caliber bigger than a .22 imo is going to turn a squirrel into chunks and red mist, getting all that ALL OVER your attic, and put a hole in whatever is behind the squirrel, not to mention piss off your neighbors and get the police called on you if you don't live like a mile from any other person.

when my family had a squirrel problem, we just set cages out in the backyard with some food in them, captured the squirrels one by one, and released them a short drive away from the house

I think I actually did try that once, they started going away for like a week or so but then they came back later and it started all over again. Kind of lost faith in that strategy.
