Genewars. I played a ton of this but I could never convince any of my friends that it was a sweet game.
I also remember trying to convince my mother that I was being productive with my computer time by, "saving the environment". Weak excuse, she didn't buy it.

I don't know if it was just because I was shit or something but I remember this game being hard as fucking balls. There were a ton of maps I just got utterly stumped on, took me ages and I gave up in the end.

I remember back in the day praying to any god that would hear me to let my 28.8k modem not die in the ass and allow me to connect to a populated server through QuakeSpy.
This game was my entire childhood. I remember my school teacher telling me not to write about Quake anymore in my journal. Quake 2 was released shortly after.

My favorite game, however, was some sort of pixel art program, that let you grab sprites from a huge gallery, and drag them into a separate panel to make scenes.

Is this considered a hidden gem? I know that a decent amount of people know about it and it's gotten some sequels, but it doesn't seem to be as well known as Duke Nukem or Doom, though that might just be me.

It's pretty infamous, however it's popularity and notoriety have declined a lot in the past decade.
I did not have many PlayStation 1 games. Only reason why is because 2 months of owning the damn thing I poured ketchup into the disc try and then turned it on. (I was only 3 years old.)
Aside from that, I remember playing this game quite a bit with my Father.

Yes. Twenty thousand times yes. Fantastic platforming, but the third act of the game (both the difficulty and the story) just broke me.

Tactical Ops : Assault On Terror. Easiest way to describe the game was it was UT's answer to Counterstrike. IMO it was vastly superior, the gameplay was much faster paced and the game itself was way more modular than Counter Strike ever was or ever will be, especially in today's day and age. also, this is what a hidden gem is - crash, spyro, mario, silent hill and anything else form a major franchise are not "hidden".
