There is a noticable sound
it's about as noticeable as any other gun
I'm pretty sure aliens wouldn't use the same types of firearms we use...
Obviously never shot one of those. You can definitely reload them mid-clip, although 1) it's slow and 2) the US Army trained troops not to do so, because it could bring in extra dirt that would jam the gun. As for the ping, that's a pure video-game thing. It started with movies, where the automatically-ejected clip would make a ringing sound as it hit the ground, if it hit concrete or rock. If you're shooting on dirt, grass or even gravel, it makes no such pinging sound, and it DEFINITELY doesn't make one as the clip ejects.
I heard that they'd sometimes throw empty clips at the ground so the enemy would think they were out of ammo.
As for the ping, that's a pure video-game thing.
partially true. there was a pinging sound from the clip being ejected, but it wasn't as pronounced as video games make it out to be. via wikipedia: Ejection of an empty clip created a distinctive metallic "pinging" sound.[27] In World War II, reports arose in which German and Japanese infantry were making use of this noise in combat to alert them to an empty M1 rifle in order to 'get the drop' on their American enemies. The information was taken seriously enough that U.S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground began experiments with clips made of various plastics in order to soften the sound, though no improved clips were ever adopted.[28]
Bullpups only advantage is that they are smaller and lighter. Everything else has to do with the mechanisms for firing, the round, ect. Bullpups are new rifles and are not adopted into alot of military sevices. Anyone who has used a AR-15 for a few years then suddenly picks up a FAMAS with have trouble with the FAMAS.
From what I know, most non-bullpup rifles prevail over bullpup rifles in hand to hand combat using bayonets.
I'm pretty sure aliens wouldn't use the same types of firearms we use...
Its actually evolution at its finest....Two factions are evolutions of homosapiens while Humans themselves are a major faction. The closest equivalent video game plot wise would be the Helghast, except without the exodus part. Oh thanks to those who are answered with serious ones and actually red the OP. While I do appreciate the M1 Garand and Kar98K images, I'm talking assault rifles.
desert eagle assault rifel is the bestt one it shoots 1 million bullets/seond.
CODfags up in here
Does nobody know what a bullpup is? It's not a specific gun. It's a configuration.

Actually, if you want someone to look over your game design, I'd be happy to. I've got a bit of experience with game design, and I've probably read enough to give you an educated opinion on it.

The story is the most fleshed out part of the entire thing but thats because I like a good fucking story and a lot of RTS games seem to miss that whole "We're fighting a war" thing. The most direct inspiration for all this would be WiC which isn't even RTS.

Those are important, yes, but the main thing for a game is making it fun, ie. game design.

I'm just now getting into what the human faction looks like.
