• How can I stay awake?

Start thinking about heavy topics. I am often kept awake pondering the fact that all people are on an unstoppable path to certain death. Which may result in a sudden stop in your existence, or what I believe to be equally terrible fate you will somehow live on for an eternity. Both of which makes me worry that all life is in the long run rather pointless. I also have a tendency to replay various events in my day/life and consider ways in which those events could have played out differently. On top of that just generally pondering such things as the age and vastness of the universe, whether all people perceive color in the same way, and whether or not other people or in fact myself are truly conscious.

I'm a bit weird like that, there are months where I take 4 hours to fall asleep, and then there are months I fall asleep in 5 mins like you. You don't know what you're wishing for, when I can't fall asleep it's a fucking torture. You want to sleep, you know you have responsabilities and things to do the next day, you think about how awful you're going to feel, how hard will it be to cope with everything all day, you tell yourself go to sleep, you try to shut down everything as much as you can for 20 mins, you feel like you're going to fall asleep, and then there's a fucking mosquito or some shit annoying you and you have to re-do everything all over again from the beginning you don't know how happy I am when I'm in this period where I just feel all snuggly and cozy and fall asleep within 5 minutes
Sell me your sleeping habits for 1000 USD. [editline]18th September 2012[/editline] It takes me hours to fall asleep even when I'm tired, so that is a completely serious offer (if only...).

don't get in bed?
Seriously what you have is a gift, that many people would pay good money to have. Personally, I hate being awake for hours and hours doing nothing but pondering about all the shit you have done (or haven't). It's not something pleasant, it's just plain annoying, especially if you think about the same shit over and over again.
No doubt, in fact I've had periods of this before, but my situation is somewhat different. I do a lot of research, which involves needing a long time to think. Often the night is best for this, both due to fewer distractions and the fact that I tend to be more alert then. Of course if I go straight to sleep, then that period of time is ruined. Sometimes I lie on the top of the bed without getting in, but while it's slower, I do tend to fall asleep pretty fast.
set yourself on fire
Cut off your eyelids and keep the light on.
jesus fuck how i despise you i want to go to fucking sleep when i want to sometimes i'm just hideously tired and i say "hey let's go to bed" and my brain is like "no fuck you jimmy" and then i never fall asleep and go to work like a fucking rugged motorbiker who's been up all night chasing vampires
why is everyone here having so much trouble falling asleep? i just need to close my eyes and in like 5 minutes i've fallen asleep
I envy you're ability to sleep easily, i find it hard and usually don't go to bed until 4:00 am in the morning. Anyways, usually boredom makes you tired. Do something you're interested in. If that doesn't work make yourself feel as uncomfortable as possible.
why is everyone here having so much trouble falling asleep? i just need to close my eyes and in like 5 minutes i've fallen asleep
I can't sleep until 11:00PM-12:00AM on a school night because i spend two hours trying to get comfortable. Then when i finally get comfortable i start dreaming and feel like i'm falling, then i jerk my leg and wake up.
Dang, you are lucky. I roll around in bed forever trying to fall asleep. Anyways, don't be laying down, keep the lights on if possible, drink caffeine, listen to music that ISN'T calming, etc. If you are tired though then it would be best to just trust your body and let yourself fall asleep.
