Most of his movies (six including Man of Steel) were made during the peaks of his popularity which he dominated for many years before the late 80s and then 90s. Considering how much of a money-maker the first Donner film was and the sequel (Superman II) that was already planned and filmed, it's no wonder people wanted to get more money off the success of the Donner Superman. Since that, there was Superman Returns which was released in 2006 and Man of Steel that's coming out this year. Between Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Superman Returns, there was a freakin 19-years hiatus. Between Returns and Man of Steel there has been a 7 year hiatus.
The character certainly isn't pushing out theatrical films a lot compared to the superheroes of today/post 2000s. DC likes making stuff about him because he's the quintessential comic book Superhero. A lot of great stuff came out of the character and good things are explored in his mythos. What helps is that the character essentially became some sort of tulpa. I personally find him fascinating and inspirational.

Well he is called 'Super'man. DC powered him like crazy after the late golden age when a bunch of other superheroes started coming in like Captain Marvel. They didn't want people to think Superman as not so super when a new superhero was more super than he was. He's got a bunch of powers sure but they've fluctuated over the years and many are thrown out or used again after a big hiatus. Good writers create interesting scenarios where he struggles a lot. Bad and/or simplistic writers just tone him down a lot and/or have him fight someone who's stronger and resort to things where the story focuses on fighting.
He's not the strongest character ever. There's a bunch of characters out there that have more powers than Superman. Superman's interesting because it's a weird blend between someone's a god and a man. What does he think himself to be? How does he view the world and himself? What makes him human even if he's a super alien man? Why does he do the things that he does? He's kinda like a god who wants to become a man. The varying interpretations of the character over the years are also interesting. His powers were never to be taken too literally anyway. He's just super in every physical way. Kinda like a mythical hero. The interesting stuff comes from the 'man' part from his name. Super just spices up the action and adventures.

I'm not one of those atheists that actively goes out of his way to disprove a God, but it gets annoying when there's Christians who actively go out of their way to try and prove me wrong. But holy shit, it's like the first and new testament were written by two different groups of authors, first testament everyone listens to him out of fear then he's like " hey guize I'm really nice, here's my son who I'm going to put in a clearly underdeveloped part of the world to be the savior of that way no actually decent records of his existence can be kept and details about him can be misconstrued to fit whatever purpose!!!
