I'd have loved to see more of this game.
It's like GTA set in London but with a much more linear plot. More like an interactive movie than a game but still great for what it was trying to do.
I think this game was really underrated, it definitely has some flaws but overall it's such a unique game. Honestly I think it's actually quite unrivaled in terms of originality. Furthermore it got an HD release some time ago and it's even better now with improved AI and overall gameplay. Definitely worth a try.

If only whoever sat on the IP actually did something with it instead...
I remember waiting for the translation project for that one. I'm gonna tag on Metal Warriors to this. It had a split screen vs. mode too. And a spiderbot.
If only Metal Warriors at least got a sequel, or a nice reboot. This is one of my favorites on the SNES.
Bionic Commando (2009) Played it last October two times in a row and had a ton of fun. In the beginning the bionic arm was tricky to use, but once you master it you can traverse the levels really fast and attack enemies in many different ways; using guns, throwing them in the sky, throwing objects at them, etc... Unfortunately the developer messed up the ending with unnecessary story twists. They also restricted freedom of movement in many levels, you can die by swinging 2 meters too far. They also missed a great opportunity to make fun grappling hook challenges and time trials which would make the multiplayer component much more interesting; imagine Worms ninja rope challenges, but in 3D. The game sold extremely poorly and probably will never get a sequel, which was hinted in the final credits scene. The game has so much more to offer.
If only whoever sat on the IP actually did something with it instead...
Well, they are allowing Rewind to happen, so that's something. They're being pretty damn shitty about it though.
I'd dare to say its one of the most underrated/ underappreciated sonic game of the 2D era. Its basically a huge remix of the first three games with a rather great gameplay and soundtrack for the neo geo pocket color.
Oh hey, this thread again
I played a shit ton of web free version of N+ back in the day, good ol' times. Glad it became something bigger.
Wasn't N the free version on browsers, N+ came out on Xbox 360 as a paid arcade game (loads of memories from that with friends), and now I'm hearing about N++ that I didn't even know existed.
red alert is anything but underrated
ran into a guy once who was super into Age of Empires and Starcraft but had no idea the whole CnC franchise even existed I still don't know how it's even physically possible for a person like that to exist
Squaresoft once made a racing-RPG game that was surprisingly, rather interesting and definitely underrated as fuck. It has a very deep story for a racing game, the writer being the writer for Final Fantasy X and the director for the newer Final Fantasy games as well. Basically amnesiac protagonist found himself part of a street racing team in Tokyo and sets out to find his memories, only to find out an corporation has sinister plans to create what's essentially drug enhancement for racecar drivers.
The font in the title screams final fantasy.
It really feels forgotten and underappreciated. But with it being a Konami game, I doubt we're going to see any more of this glorious rocket possum. It deserved better.

It finally came out on steam not to long ago. But so much fun making combos of creatures.
The plot system in the game was great. You're a spy trying to uncover a randomly generated plot (A terrorist group is attempting a prison break, x group wants to destroy the only satellite uplink station we have for a new spy satellite, etc). So you have to go around to different cities and uncover clues until you get solid evidence on members of the plot.(Which can be spread across several organizations) But even better is the members actually keep track of what's going on. Lets say it's a bombing plot. You probably have a courier, bomb tech, bomber, organizer, paymaster, and a mastermind. Right at the start, the organizer's gonna probably send coded messages to each of the participants notifying them of stuff. Stuff like, hey we need you to make a bomb, I've got a guy coming that will bring you the ingredients, when you're done, he'll pick up the completed bomb, and our paymaster will pay you. But lets say you find the courier early, you've managed to either decode the organizer's message to him, or found incriminating evidence through break-ins or wiretaps. He's got the bomb materials, but he hasn't delivered them yet. You arrest him and take the bomb materials. The bomb tech is going to hear about it and go into hiding since he can't complete his part of the mission. And it'll soon domino up the organization as each member soon realizes the plan has been fubared. Technically this is a win since you foiled the plot, but you're going to get a low score since most of the action team got away. Instead you gather information to find out where the high ranking officers, like organizers, paymasters, and the mastermind are. The lower ranked agents will still continue their orders if their leader gets arrested, assuming that the leader has already sent the information needed for the plot. And if the plot's getting a little too far along for your liking, you can break into one of the participants hideouts and steal a critical part forcing them to reacquire a new one.(So lets say you steal the bomb after the tech has finished making it. The courier's gonna have to go get new parts and deliver them to him again) You can also get really lucky and find embarrassing or heavily incriminating details on a participant to the point that they'll agree to become a double agent for you and relay every communication and action they send or receive. If you fail to nab a mastermind on a case, it's likely you'll see them show up in a plot related to their interests again in a future case. Would really love to see this game get updated like Sid Meier's Pirates! did.

Yes! Fantastic atmosphere in this game, and surprisingly good voice acting too. I normally don't enjoy these real-time grid based RPGs but this is an exception.

The fact that Sid Meier personally considers this game a failure really depresses me. Anyway my pick is. . . Yes I know -- Far Cry 2 is by no means obscure and the only thing good about it were the graphics. It was tedious, too easy, empty, boring, etc etc etc. Except there's a very simple way to turn it into one of the most fun First Person Shooters I've ever played; crank the difficulty all the way up! It makes everything feel very real. Neither you or the enemies are superhuman, it feels a lot like the opening areas of Deus Ex. It may as well be a completely different game. With the difficulty at max the game becomes super tense -- enemies can take you out in just a couple shots, but they don't become bullet sponges. Suddenly every moment you're in hostile territory carries the very real possibility of getting killed before you even know what happened; driving a car might be faster, but it also might draw attention you can't handle. Sneaking through enemy camps to steal their supplies becomes a necessary tactic, ambushing your opponents and picking your battles carefully is the only way to survive, and listening to what sounds your opponents are making becomes almost as important as seeing them at all. Your choice of weapons becomes very important, as does dirty tactics like drawing enemies away from their positions with explosions, or even shooting a man in the gut and picking his friends off as they try to drag him to safety. It really makes you feel like a vulnerable, resourceful mercenary in a way that few games do. The fact that most people (understandably) played on the normal difficulty is a real shame. The plot is still balls tho.

This sounds fucking radical, why has nobody tried to make a game like this again?
