1. Difficult life at home, i.e. divorced parents, abusive father, etc.
2. Desperate need for attention.

It should go without saying that violence is [b]not[/b] a way to show dominance, let alone respond to bullying. It's hiding behind a curtain of masculinity instead of being better with sheer will or other kinds of superiority (i.e. more friends, better life).
The only way bullying can really hurt is if you think that, in some way, the person insulting you is better. You give merit to what they're saying. Just realize that the person trying to get to you is less of a person than you are, and they stop becoming Bullies; instead they become extremely pitiful people.
