Seem to be nit picking here. But in the Wiki article it says that three of the four engines were out of action (or damaged). Yet the paintings seem to only show one engine out of action. But it is WIKIPEDIA so I suppose there could be an error.
But the story is just very touching, it shows that there is a part in everyone's being to show mercy. Even to your enemies. And Franz Stigler wanted to avenge his brother who was killed near the beginning of the war. When the two pilots finally met, they became so close apparently that Franz considered Charlie as precious as the brother he had lost.
