This video is utter bullshit. Of course people want to learn the big picture, that's obvious. But today's technology and society are no longer simple enough to facilitate that. In fact, because people always try to seek the "big picture", the media constantly tries to sell one to them (even when it's on subjects so complicated they can hardly be compressed into a simple), creating more ignorance and making people believe that if it can't be explained in 5 minutes, then it's not worth bothering with.
"Traffic jams" and "Boredom" aren't terrible costs, they're gifts. They indicate that you have cars to drive. They indicate that you have so much free time on your hand that you can actually sit around and do nothing.
The video is right in that (most) people need to see how what they're learning fits into the bigger picture, or at least need to understand that it's part of something larger. When I was at school, someone would always ask "Why do we need to learn this? How is it going to help us in life?" Very rarely would the teacher actually explain why, or only explain to a slightly bigger picture, but never how something might be used in a practical sense.
You are right, though, in that a lot of people just want to know the big picture and don't care about learning anything more than that, then they go forming opinions and spreading incorrect information about something they actually know fuck all about. That may have something to do with a lot of education systems not explain the big picture, which causes people later in life to just want to know a rough outline.

I used to suck at math until I started connecting the different lessons and realizing the big picture with math. Now I love it and I'm not half bad. I just need to see how it fits into the world. We need to learn the specifics, and then connect it to the bigger picture I think. Like with literature, which is why I'm loving college courses. Yeah, who cares if this theme is in this play? How does that connect us as human beings?

I want to take this lock at least once in my life.

Another one I've figured out is if you're listening to music but also need to focus, listen to music that either has no lyrics, has lyrics you do not know and can not figure out quickly, or music with lyrics in a language you don't know.
It's pretty surprising how zoned out you can get singing or imagining the words to a song while you work.
tons of advice
Wow quite a bit of that is bullshit but thanks anyways.
