The fuck is going on here.
Also, yes. These are great for Aux. Pics.
A curious tree stump. I only wish I'd seen the tree before it was cut off.
I've actually seen trees that, when cut, would look like this. From what I can guess, this is how it happens:
First, there's a frost crack on the tree. This happens when the water in the tree freezes and expands, cracking the bark. This not infrequently happens low enough to the ground that it spreads *to* underground. Repeated enough, you get something like this.
But the core of the tree is still there, but now it's exposed. And it's quite soft and vulnerable to rot and insects. So that quickly gets eaten away, leaving just the hard outer wood and bark. Sometimes the tree doesn't even die from this, especially if the crack doesn't spread too far upward. That's what seems to have happened here - in fact, I'd venture to say that the reason it's curled in so much is because it continued to grow, growing in on itself.
I'm not an expert on this, though, just a guy who's seen some trees and reads Wikipedia far too much. So I'm possibly wrong.
Wait, so that actually happened when the tree was still alive? Damn.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread so sorry if this is late I'll take it off if it is.
1974 was a bad year. Some of those are amazingly long. I like how one tore from coast to coast in Florida.
This is going to sound silly, but does Europe get tornados?
I'm pretty sure land tornadoes only occur in North America.
Edit:
Actually no, tornadoes can occur in any of the orange shaded areas

The more you know.
This is going to sound silly, but does Europe get tornados?
Yes, but rarely. Similar to western USA on that map.
I'm pretty sure land tornadoes only occur in North America.
Nope. Quoth Wikipedia:
"Tornadoes have been observed on every continent except Antarctica. However, the vast majority of tornadoes in the world occur in the so-called "Tornado Alley" region of the United States, although they can occur nearly anywhere in North America.[6] They also occasionally occur in south-central and eastern Asia, northern and east-central South America, Southern Africa, northwestern and southeast Europe, western and southeastern Australia, and New Zealand."

Long story short, though, they are far, far more likely to occur in the Midwest US, or in Bangladesh/India.
Oh hey, tornadoes can occur where I live in Norway, I don't think that's happened the last 100 or so years.
Another reason I love California. People make fun of earth quakes, but I like smack dab in the center and haven't felt one my entire life.

An icy, mini grand canyon

Some moraines.

Now, I'm not sure how right this is, but I'm going to post a bit of my digital art. It's nothing too special, but hopefully you guys can appreciate it.
A tunnel.

I like chess, do you?

I'm a mountain biker (that's when all the nature shots were taken) and this is something I made a couple of months ago to celebrate that fact
[T]http://i.cubeupload.com/2rTKqV.jpg[/T]
And last but not least (I think), your friend, Stopper, blazing down a hill.
[T]http://i.cubeupload.com/5qkY5R.jpg[/T]
That's all for tonight. Tell me if I should continue or not.
[tab]I don't think I deserve a pageking, but whatever[/tab]
This one's kind of stupid, but I thought it looked cool:

I was fiddling around with Hammer, making a vanilla deathmatch map. In-game, I was taking some screenshots, accidentally bumped the FOV up to 179 degrees. Looking straight up, it gave a very... unusual result. Very modern-architecture-ish, which is why I think you guys might like it.
ok ok I have images

Interesting it's almost only first world countries. Australia, the US, Europe, South Africa, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and how many third world countries like North Korea narrowly avoid it. Weird. With a few exceptions of course.
Some more pictures, not in a chronological order.
Another salamander from a completely different trip

Frog eggs in a puddle. They are very squishy and jelly-like to the touch. Really weird.

And last but not least (again, hopefully) a photograph of our bikes on a bridge over the moraines from my previous post. This was unintentional, by the way - I only realized the potential for the photo as I stood back and looked at the bikes.

I'll see if I can dig up some more photos from my non-biking adventures through Bulgaria.
