Turns out that there's a Russian [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elektro-L_No.1"]meteorological satellite[/url] in a geostationary orbit, which on most days takes photos of the Earth at half hour intervals, and the images are dumped on a [url="http://www.ntsomz.ru/electro/source_images"]server[/url]
so I made a gif from the set of 6 April 2012
