For anyone curious: Cherenkov radiation occurs when stuff (i.e. subatomic particles like electrons) move faster in a fluid than the speed of light in that fluid.

Nope the radiation just causes the film to act like its been exposed to light. It's why some of the footage from inside Chernobyl is so grainy and poor quality.
In fact, radiation was first discovered when a radioactive rock sample was placed on a photographic plate accidentally and it developed it.

Fun fact: these two pictures are from a "series" (I think it's a series), and Paramount pictures has acquired the film rights to make a movie about this universe.
This was two years ago though, but damn I'd love to see a movie with cool characters like these.
