I'm not sure what guns you get in that level but if you have a rocket launcher you could try rocket jumping to a place where they can't get you, that's what I always do in the arena level.

Serious Sam won't even run for me for some reason since the update. It gets stuck at the "Preparing to launch Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter" screen and if I verify the cache it redownloads a 13MB file then goes through first time setup again and gets stuck on step 2 of that...
