I've noticed I have a preparing problem in video games.
I'll come up on this tough area or a hard boss and I'll start grinding to bring my abilities and gear up to snuff in preparation for said area or boss, but in the process I start finding other things that I need to do so I can actually move on. So naturally my brain says "Oh this stat could stand to be a little higher. How long is it going to take to level that up? I'll just grind for a bit." And lo and behold 3 hours later I've improved so many things. In the time I spend grinding I could have probably beaten the area and moved on by then. That's my problem with Dark Souls right now. I'm just running around killing everything in Anor Londo trying to upgrade my gear and level up just a few more times before I fight Ornstein and Smough.
That's also my problem with online games. I'll spend so much time playing offline practicing against bots or exploring maps looking for alternate flanking routes but I never put those skills to use. With TF2 and Overwatch I most commonly play against bots or fuck around on stupid servers cause I just can't seem to get past that preparing phase. I know I never truly be good at the game if I spend all my time fighting bots and I know I need to just jump into a game and start playing, but I just never do.
Once I get doing something I have no problem continuing to do it, its just getting started that gets me. I need someone to kick me in the ass to get me going.
