I've always believed that the desire to conquest and rule is a purely human thing, just like the fear of being conquered or ruled over is a purely human thing. Unless you were to perfectly emulate a human mind 1:1 or go out of your way to make an AI that conquers, I feel like AI takeovers get a little unlikely.
Just my thoughts though.

i see it more as a fascination with technology.
One of the nurses I have to work with is slightly smarter than a companion cube and several times as annoying. She won't shut up and keeps trying to involve me in a conversation when i'm trying to get some work done, and doesn't take a hint when I tell her to go and chatter with somebody else.
