Typically audio nerds complain of the ATH-M50 headphones having recessed mids, so that's probably a safe bet if you don't wanna deal with a software EQ.
look at the frequency response curve of your headphones
How would I do that?
Do whatever sounds best to you in general, but if you're looking to get accurate sound look at the frequency response curve of your headphones, and boost what's lower. If your headphones are like mine, probably the mids. Now if you want it as accurate as possible, you're gonna want to use an EQ for that. Amp is more than enough for most people though.
i dropped a decent amount of money on these headphones (ATH-M50x) and i don't wanna be putting the quality to waste so i'm willing to do whatever to know i'm getting the most out of them
Is there an EQ you could play around with on your computer while leaving the AMP on neutral?
i don't think i've got an EQ anywhere which sucks, i was just looking for one earlier

yeah it sounds really nice with the boosted mids, i figure it has to do partly with the type of things i'm listening to though so i'd assume it's a case by case thing

There's a bunch of nerds out there that measure it with specialized equipment and post the graphs all over, although it's tough to say which ones are the most accurate. Varies slightly between individual headphones and ~supposedly~ they change over time as your headphones "break in". For a basic idea of it though you can just check what comes up on Google images.
tbh i'm very much not a super audio nerd i'm just scared i'm wasting my money by not getting the best quality out of these things

Ye I was in the same boat when I got mine as a Christmas gift. :v:
I ended up doing all kinds of research and tearing hair out at the rampant conflicting advice. Fun stuff!!

Not sure what this means other than maybe boost treble? Which is actually fine for me because too much treble is unpleasant for me.

At least to me, that's probably a sign that it's all bullshit.
I know nothing about audio, but that's been a good rule of thumb for me to follow.

Yeah, a lot of it is. The one thing that really confused me was the "burn in" time people talk about when you get a new pair of headphones. Apparently you're supposed to break them in by playing pink noise through them for like 12 hours straight and it makes them sound better?? I never found any actual evidence that "breaking in" was anything other than people getting used to the sound of their headphones.

Their placebos are getting in the way of an objective analysis.
Unfortunately this happens to almost all of us.

That sounds like nonsense to me.
I managed to flip my sleeping pattern off track and got it back on track.
But now I'm getting it fucked again. I need to sleep better and harder.
my team's kicker in madden failed to be clutch and lost me a super bowl yaaay
:(
So I heard a ruckus upstairs, and I went to investigate to find that my father's terrier had caught and killed a flying squirrel who'd gotten into the house.
For some reason I'm freaking out right now. It was certainly unpleasant, but I feel like I'm much more disturbed than I should be about it.
Last night I actually guessed there was a flying squirrel in the house. They've come in before, and I could hear him running around in the walls. I searched with a flashlight for a while, but never found him.
Poor squirrel :c
There's these new boxes that you can make tacos in a bag out of and they're fucking delicious

What the hell is pink noise?
I don't want tomorrow to happen. In the morn I have to go fix my financial aid problem ($3k in debt) and then I have more soccer concessions that night.
Go me.

And god dammit I posted this at the wrong damn thread a moment ago.
I spend the past 3 days studying for a post office exam, and then when I finally try to take it, their website shits the bed and fucks up all my information.
DANDY.
