Also, you may know best, and I have a bit of a question here.

Derpishcat offers me a Shimian QH270 27" display for cheap, although the display controller is dead and has got an oven treatment before giving up again after about 4 months.

I can get a universal kit, which has HDMI, DVI, and VGA compared to DVI dual link only to the original board but considering it's a special panel it will take 103 USD.

I can also get a cheap toaster oven, and chuck the original board in that oven outside.

Now I wonder if this monitor is worth it to fix? The panel itself is the exact same model as used on the 27" Apple Thunderbolt display.

it is a big deal to some people though. they don't have to make it into one

I feel the same. Only thing is I'm working while sitting my exams/lectures. Some days I'm getting up at 6 o'clock in the morning, working until 4-5 in evening and than driving to a three hiour lecture. I'm always feeling exhausted.
