Well, yes, it may be a shit texture, but it's still a field of color. I'm not saying you should use it, I'm saying there's no real reason to make a divide between real, drawn, drawings and paintings.

That's what it is, but the whole idea is about coloring the area by YOURSELF, not leaving it raw, at least in art. Thats what I think, but I don't know If I can actually anwser to that. By the way, the only technique i can think of where you shouldn't paint the whole canvas are watercolors.
