i personally played Silent Hill 2 first (on PS2) and then 1 and 3 (bought 1 from the PS store, and 3 also on PS2). i personally liked it a lot that way, but i plan on doing a PC playthrough next time i play 2 and 3. i didn't want to deal with any potential issues setting up the PC version and just wanted to jump right in.

the way i've always recommended it is to start with Silent Hill 2. it's completely unrelated from 1 in that it's a completely self-contained story, and also a good way to acquaint yourself with the way the general gameplay of the series works . 1 is a bit too archaic with some of its mechanics, and i think playing 2 beforehand makes it less frustrating then it could be jumping straight into the first.

There a theory about what certain colours do to our heads, I remember watching a yt video on game team colours having a effect on the overall win ratio, with the red team having more wins due to the mind reacting to red which is often associated with danger, blood and evil. It later mentioned that the colour blue is calming, relaxing and can keep you alert, and due to the colours that screens can produce, you are more likely to stay awake if you leave a TV screen intront of you broadcasting something
