1 & 2 were fantastic and they really should have put a full stop on it after 2, or at least continued it in a completely separate story with its own separate background. Instead they decided to use the same characters who have been overdeveloped and fleshed out as far as they were going to be over the past two games in a third game, so there's literally zero room for them to expound upon which I think is why the writing ended up so awful.
They tried to remedy that by adding some new support characters (and almost COMPLETELY centering the game around co-op) which ended up biting them in the ass because the characters they added blew chunks.
I feel like if they wanted to make Dead Space as a series work, they should have stuck Isaac in and fully developed his character in one game and not continue'd to use him as a centerpiece for three games. Then used other characters to develop Dead Space in sequels finishing by tying it together in an overarching finale. Instead they kept Isaac around and had him stay long past his welcome.
