Nope a good scotch is supposed to be ever so slightly diluted to bring out the flavours. Go to a distillery and ask them.
having worked in a Scottish pub for several months i can confirm metallics speaks the truth. can't see the appeal of a drop of water myself, but that's how it's done

you use water on whiskey, as you use it on any other spirit to take out some of the overpowering alcohol taste and let the other flavours come out. This is used for [B]tasting[/B] purposes. You might like this exact way to have your usual drink, as you might also like it neat or on the rocks. At the end of the day it doesn't fucking matter because it's your drink. Its like arguing over whats a correct martini: There's no certain correct way, there's just a lot of different ways to make martinis
