going to go play WoW... wanna get my warrior that just hit 70 yesterday to 71... with the heirloom shoulders and chest, it should be a breeze.
Here comes the story.
"I have been expecting you for quite a while, Damien Angel", Death explained. "And your friends". Damien knelt before Death, in an attempt to show humility. "Oh, don't grovel...", he added with exasperation. "I'm sick and tired of people grovelling...". "Oh, right, sorry...", Damien replied. "Anyways, I come before you to seek information-" "Indeed you do... You seek the location of your beloved Beverly Miller, I presume?", Death replied. "Erm, yes, but-", Damien began. "Beloved?", Adam queried, shocked by what he just heard. "Damien, do you-" "I- I- No, I don't!", Damien countered, noticably anxious and embarrassed. "Sh- She's just a friend! A friend i'm sworn to protect and guide, nothing more!" "Come now, wizard...", Death interrupted. "There is no use hiding it from one who knows all... Admit it, you are indeed romantically attracted to her" Gritting his teeth with a sense of submissive humiliation, Damien turned to his friends. "*sigh* Ok, it's true", he said as he hung his head heavy. "I do indeed love her... I hadn't felt this way about a person since-" "Since Chloe", Adam remarked, shaking his head. "For shame, Damien. You dishonour her memory, what she fought for... She loved you deeply, and this is how you repay her? With infatuations for some other girl? You're nothing but a cheating unfaithful BASTARD!"
Damien raised an eyebrow and laughed contemptfully at Adam's accusations. "Oh really?", he smirked haughtily, crossing his arms. "Quite an ironic condemnation, considering what YOU did. Are you not guilty of the same crime? You lost your wife after the Secret War, thinking you'd never love another, and then BAM!, 8 years later, you're knocking boots with Erika! Nothing wrong about interraciality, but the point still stands! You're no more faithful than I, chumley, and nothing you can say will change it". Adam suddenly felt ashamed of what he'd done, his thoughtless dishonor. Initially feeling a sense of victorious schadenfreude, Damien soon felt sorry for Adam, and attepmted to console him. "There's no shame in it, Adam", he explained. "Time stops for no-one, not even those who can't cope with life. The faster people adapt and recover from change, even change as drastic and dramatic as the loss of the ones they love, the faster their lives get better. Getting over loss means you can get on with your life, even if it doesn't seem right. It may seem wrong, but it's the only way..." "How very interesting...", Death exclaimed. "Emotions seem such tangible things, so good, yet so bad. How you mortals live with them is beyond even me..." "Aye. It is indeed hard for one to comprehend mortal life when one lacks the emotions and biological needs that motivates it", Damien replied. "Hell, even I can't comprehend some aspects of it. But emotional discussion aside, I need to know where she is, so I can save her and bring her back home". "Ah yes, I know where she is", Death began. "She is within an underwater city, known as the Dome of D'Sparil. The master of that city, a demonic sorceror by the name of D'Sparil, has captured her, and plans to use her for... a great and terrible spell" Damien remembered that name, for yet again, it was from a video game he once played.
D'Sparil was the youngest of a trio of demonic brothers known as the Serpent Riders, who corrupted and invaded many dimensions in their quest for dominance. Whatever this monster was planning, Damien was determined to stop him. "This spell...", Death continued. "...will combine her powers of dimensional tunneling with her dominion over matter, to create a plague of microscopic mechanical insects capable of consuming all matter with little effort, and would spread in across reality, reducing countless worlds to interstellar dust. This, I will not permit to happen. However, the Auditors of Reality have forced me to abide by certain restrictions, and thus I cannot directly intervene" "Ugh, those Auditors are a load of stuffy old bastards...", Damien recalled, rubbing his forehead. "But then again, who can blame them? They're tasked with recording every single bloody thing that ever happens, so they probably just want to see reality destroyed so they can catch up on their precious 'paperwork'. They've got many attempts planned, too, Hogfather, Thief of Time, etc". "It is indeed a shame that they are as they are...", Death pondered. "Sometimes I think it would've been better if the Old High Ones just sacked the Auditors and used those mechanical number-crunchers you call computers to chronicle reality instead. At least then they wouldn't prattle on about catching up on paperwork or how messy they think life is..." "Yes yes, very good idea", Damien interrupted, a sense of urgency now rushing through him. "But I need the coordinates for the Dome of D'Sparil! And quickly, we have no idea when the spell will activate!" "There is little need for urgency, wizard", Death reassured. "Time runs differently here. In comparison to this dimension, the rest of reality is barely moving at all. 1000 years would pass here before a single second passed anywhere else..."
"How convenient...", Damien replied. "But I still need those coordinates. I can't just sit around and do nothing when Beverly's very likely suffering!" "Eager to wade into battle, I see", Death noted. "However, the enemy you face is rather capable of crushing you easily. You intend to wade in and tear him apart, the power of Chattur'gha at your side, but it will do you no good, for he bears powers of magic that would destroy those who focus on the physical. Nay, you must find one with Ancient power at his side, for it is HE who must destroy D'Sparil, not you..." Damien was shocked by this sudden development. "Another is destined to defeat him, and not me?", he queried. "Yes", Death replied. "At present, this man is merely a crusader of the stars, Paladin Gabriel Carpenter. However, his destiny runs alongside yours. I believe you once did battle with one of his ancestors, one who bore certain 'Warlord' chromosomes" Once again, Damien's ears perked up. "Warlord chromosomes?", he queried with speculative curiosity. "As in, the Belmont Warlord Chromosomes?! Are you trying to say i'm supposed to hunt down a descendant of the legendary Belmont clan?" "Yes. You must seek out and 'recruit' Gabriel Belmont II, in the year of 2210" "...but- but how is that even-", Damien began. "Julius Belmont's remains were preserved by the Church after his death in the early 2050's", Death explained. "These remains were later exhumed over a century later, to provide the Warlord Chromosomes required to reforge the then-extinct Belmont clan. This eventually resulted in the birth of Gabriel Belmont II, the one who's allegiance you must obtain" "Ah right, I understand now", Damien said. "I guess the II in his name means that there was indeed a Gabriel Belmont in the past. So Lords of Shadow WAS canonical after all..."
"However, he is not as easy to ally with as you think", Death warned. "In the absence of a Dark Lord to balance out Good, the Church became too strong, and in time overwhelmed all of humanity. Catholicism became dominant in all humans, and those that dissented were destroyed as heretics. Their dogma has clouded the perceptions of all their subjects, Gabriel included, and they have spread their archaic ways across the stars as humankind roamed the galaxy, unaffected by the weakened Darkness. There was no Balance, the Faith invaded many worlds, converting younger sentiences to the Church, destroying the sentiences that dissented or resisted. A travesty of Good and Evil, whichever perspective you observe it from". Damien never could've believed that Good could do such things when Evil was diminished, even when he looked back on his own world, ruled by Order and 'Good', relentlessly keeping the balance of the world in their favour, destroying all vestiges of Chaos and 'Evil', indulging grossly on the positive aspects of life, even when the negative aspects were needed in order to restore balance. Perhaps the EMP attack was a good thing after all, allowing balance to be restored to his world, even if it meant an era of chaos... "Words will not persuade him to delve into the darkness that you must travel through, so you will require this to undo the corruption that the dogma has done to his mind", Death continued, handing Damien a strange magickal device akin to an amulet. "Once his sight has been purified, you must locate the Tomb of Julius on Earth. There lies the ancient weapon of the Belmont clan, the Vampire Killer whip. Gabriel is destined to wield this weapon, for it is instrumental in defeating the ancient evil lurking beneath that world, the evil that Gabriel must defeat and consume if he is to complete his destiny".
"Ancient evil?", Damien queried. "What manner of creature must the young Belmont defeat if he is to defeat D'Sparil?" "That is for him, and you, to discover", Death countered. "You will hear it's call once you find the Tomb of Julius. I also feel you will be needing this". Death picked a book off of the bookcase, and tore a page from it. As Damien's fingers laid upon the page, he suddenly beheld potent visions. These visions flashed across his eyes, and he barely managed to discern most of them. A man in powered armour, battling Damien. The armoured man, seething with energy projected by the amulet. Damien's car, being pursued by fighter craft. The Vampire Killer whip, laid out on a stone table. A vast stone city, dripping with moss and seaweed. And a great evil of the deep sea, bound by chains of fire and enchantments of sleep. As Damien stumbled backwards, he realised what this evil was. The sickly green skin, the bat-like wings on it's back, the vile tentacles that encircled it's massive mouth, the evil eyes that burned with darkness, the terrifying claws that seemed to lacerate reality simply by twitching. This entity Damien had learned much about in his youth, but none of his training could prepare him for what this horror represented. Insanity dripped from the creature as if it were merely sweat, even though it didn't seem alive at all. "Seriously?", Damien whimpered. "You mean we have to defeat CTHULHU in order to defeat D'Sparil?"
"Yes", Death replied. "Sorry..."
To be continued...
Also, the newly-mentioned Gabriel Belmont is in fact a rendition of Joxalot. Over time, this character'll develop quite a bit.
