one school kind of covered all bases in a single art class, starting us with color theory and basic drawing technique and then moving on to pottery and ceramics
in the highschool i graduated from, ceramics was its own course and art was its own course

I'm not sure about other high schools in my area, but mine had a somewhat big section dedicated to art, craft, and media classes. Unfortunately, my school/district was also one those schools/districts that leaned in heavy favor of math, english, college prep(One of the most useless classes we had), and football. So most other classes weren't as funded and usually had budget problems.
At my school ceramics is an entire year long course there's an advanced class too but I'm only in the regular one.
