RaceMenu gives you a stupid amount of customization, though it's clunky and not really as good as FO4's
Can't make the most of it unless you have the patience to use its mesh editing feature

the key as in all roguelikes is cautious play, plus having escape options handy to cut your losses in case things go south. you need at least 1 instant heal infusion, 1 movement infusion, a teleport or phase door rune, and a good wild infusion for at least physical + mental effects. There are hard counters to every class's playstyle, so if you encounter something that's bashing you hard, book it out of there. And don't try to challenge adventurer parties on the main world map unless you're confident or masochistic.
