in all seriousness it is less a judgement of you and more a reflection on the fact i don't really like Overwatch or the direction it's taken and that it's not the sort of game i'd ever play to [I]progress[/I] in, rather than to practice or just have fun

have i mentioned my belief that progression systems, even purely cosmetic ones, do not belong in multiplayer FPSes, especially team-based ones with fairly short and contained matches where the only objective should be to have a bit of fun and try to win
i probably have
personally i'm not capable of playing any game or sport without focusing on increasing my skill level and/or rating

i agree with you that multiplayer FPS games ideally shouldn't have gameplay affecting unlocks (cosmetic is fine with me) but i consider matchmaking rating entirely different from that

see, practicing your skill is cool with me; hell, that's the absolute best thing you could build a game around imo
but i feel like when there's an actual reward tied to your performance or whether you win or lose, it puts a lot more pressure on players and results in more toxic communities
i miss the experience of just chilling out with internet strangers and playing the game how i please in TF2

o i thought you meant grinding for loot boxes
im kinda meh on matchmaking rating; it's a required system for matchmaking to work (and if you try to hide it players will just figure it out anyways) but i don't like matchmaking much in the first place

The last game I played without skill based matchmaking (if it did have any sort of skill matching it was an abysmal attempt) was Titanfall 2 and at least 90% of the matches I saw were imbalanced combined with the snowbally Titan system and bad spawns. Most games consisted of a single player stimming to the enemy spawn, killing all of them, getting a Titan, and spawncamping them, ruining the game for every other player in the match.
