No, he's not saying that at all.
He's saying who owns the canvas is the difference between okay and not okay.
And I agree.
erm what. You told me I was wrong and then corrected me with something that means literally exactly the same thing.
Graffiti is a historical part of culture. Tagging was the first form of it, all the way from ancient Rome.
I personally enjoy well made graffiti or some with good taste. For example, there is a abandonned old facility near my dad's workplace, and it has couple of tags made with white paint - in a wall where nobody could climb and in top of the chimney.
I love graffiti. It's just one of those quintessential parts of any urban landscape, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Even dumb tags can help to liven things up and add character.

Awesome
Graffiti is cool. Tagging is not.
Most of my friends do graffiti. (tags, pieces, burners etc.) You can't have one without the other and you definitely can't enjoy the community untill you are neck deep in it. A majority of those who do graffiti are regular guys, down-to-earth, solid people.

For those who are wondering: I don't do graff myself I just draw and paint.
I just bought a fucktonne of colours from Monstercolours, we're heading to southbank in a few months time to get a feel for public Graffing. We have a town nearby, but sadly there's not a lot of 'legal' spaces to paint. We tend to overlook that minor issue, although we don't paint on the buildings of private businesses, only shit like Tescos and other chain stores
Is it yours? No? Don't fucking paint on it, some poor sod has to clean it up you know.

so this was with a pretty shitty quality camera, but you've really got to appreciate the detail gone into this. Also combine that with the fact that the alley the guy did it in was just slightly narrower than a single bed, so he didn't really have much room to step back.

Sorry, kind of half of the point in graffiti is that it's willfully breaking the law. I understand that a guy has to clean it, but if you want to get seen, you have to break the law.

I mean, even Banksy is committing a crime
Depends for me, if it's on private material, it's wrong, if it's on public stuff like boring and empty walls, it's not
But that's just my opinion
graffiti is so much better to look at than boring grey brick walls.
Don't draw on my shit, do it in designated areas, or you know, on a canvas?
Don't draw on my shit, do it in designated areas, or you know, on a canvas?
I'm pretty sure only the cunt graff artists spray on actual peoples private property, the majority just do it on public walls/ some big businesses.
I dunno. Some of those guys can draw like an angel.

yep, that's like an angel.
The story behind that one is actually really touching. He originally drew a renowned pulp fiction one up there, and this tagger Ozone sprayed over it, writing "if you do better next time, I'll leave it" then Ozone died (I think he was hit by a train) so Banksy threw up this piece as a tribute
I love graffiti, any kind. Like names written on walls I just love looking at it.
Banksy :gizz:

Blek le Rat is also amazing
Graffiti is only ok when you're not doing it on something the owner doesn't want you to.

got to give props to burning candy, they make freehand look goooood.
There was nice looking graffiti where I lived but some chucklefuck tagged his name on it so all you see is "Chuck"

That's part of the destruction side of street art, it's sort of like taking a guys essay and handing in it before he can as your work. It's perfectly viable as a form of expression, but I wish the taggers would avoid covering up the work of people who actually try
My answer is more complicated than "yes" or "no".
I'd like to see long city walls left out for graffiti artists to do their thing on - and I mean the professionals... not the ones with black spray-paint scribbles.
if it's art I don't mind at all
if it's dicks or gangs I will blow that wall to shmechenthereins
My entire elementary school was vandalized with swear words and stupid pictures when I was in first grade. It was awesome, but looked like shit. You can still see where they sprayed the white over all of it and this was like, 10 years ago.
as long as its not out in the middle of a street, and on a hidden alleyway, im fine, also about train graffiti, who just wants to drive a boring old yellow brown train for 7 hours strait when you can drive the PIMP TRAIN!
obligatory appearance by me
...not much to say that hasn't been said already. :frown:
My opinions-
• graffiti as a means of "LOL MY NAME/GIRL'S NAME/GANG IS HERE IM FAMOUS" is just retarded and disrespectful, and 90% of the time you can't even fucking read it
• Artistic work but illegally done is promising, though still stupid because it could land the artist in jail. Trespassing, painting up places that didn't want it, etc.
• Graffiti done for events, or in places that are remote, abandoned, and otherwise ignored by the world (which are prime locations for graffiti events anyways) is pretty cool
• Doing Graffiti as a public display (for sake of art or promotional event) is pretty cool, and I like that the local business they're doing it for is cool enough to let them do it on their property (even if they'll paint over it later.)
It's an illegal art form.
If you get permission to put up a graffiti painting then it's not wrong, however that's not very likely to happen.

it's somewhat common in larger cities, though you kind of have to be recognized for your art first... which means you have to start somewhere, which in most cases is the illegal crap.
Ah, well. City livin'
It's Illegal, but then again it adds to the urban appeal I kinda like it (well not the scrawl tags, they are just vandalism), also Banksy is total prick just so you know.

Now this is awesome, but it looks like something they might have had permission to do.
