If the book allows me to give myself a genie / an item which allows me to wish infinitely, I'd take the book.
If the book wouldn't allow that, I'd take the goose. Near infinite amounts of gold would give a good start in life, I could focus on doing whatever I like.
If book allows me to write that I was offered two items instead of one right after I got the book, and chose the box, keeping the book and getting the box.

Nag nag nag, party pooper. Should something happen from using the box, the book allows me to eradicate that by writing a common cure for cancer and other illnesses. I could write myself as a lottery winner a few seconds ago to be able to afford it. Done.
