March, It means I am descended from the people I hate the most, French aristocrats. But they were Welsh from the 1100sish till the mid 16th century.
fun fact! if they were welsh from about the 1100s to the mid 16th century as you say, they probably WERE french aristocrats! when william the conqueror took over in 1066, there was an influx of french people, many of them aristocrats, as you say. french nobles were weak (rather than being smart and using progeniture, they decided to divide up their estates amongst their heirs) and were like "new land? hot dog! ill take it!"

Van Heerden, dutch. Means "From Heerde", which is where my ancestors came from before they colonised South Africa. My great, great, great, great something great grandfather was a captain on one of the first fleets :3: We have a 400 year old bible so I can trace my ancestry back all the way to the Elizabethan era. Anyway, my family crest: The motto down the bottom says "Rus in Urbe" which is latin for "Country in the city" My first name is Maritza, which means 'Star of the Sea', or 'Mother of Jesus' and my middle names are taken from two very important biblical women :3: My grandmother is an uber-Christian.

Don't know how it makes sense though :3:
Well, I knew Kammer meant room. I've heard stories that it used to be spelled "Kammermeyer" with a y in the end. But I've never found a good translation of that word either. My father tells me our name means "Chamberlain" but I seriously can't use him as a good source.
