I think you've answered all my questions, but it still makes sense to me that 1/0.0..1 would be approaching infinity or be equal to infinity because the as the denomater gets smaller and smaller the output gets larger and larger, even though I realize that you cannot divide by zero.
Just remember that: A) The number 0.0...1 isn't real. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. B) If it WERE real it would more than likely be equivalent to 0.
-
What are you getting at?
Which I've said twice throughout this thread.. Listen very carefully. I understand the logic, of not being able to take quantities of 0, out of a number. It doesn't make any sense. But at the same time, the math makes perfect sense, so point out the problem in the math or my givens. If there are no problems, then all i did was point out a paradox, right?
What "doesn't make sense" to you? And what is this "math" that makes perfect sense and makes this all correct and good in your head? Do you really think that you, an average teen, know more about this debate that has been thought of and contested for hundreds if not thousands of years by the worlds smartest minds?

Look at this: O find the start of the circle that makes the O. You can't. There isn't one. You can imagine there is one, but it's not real.
@bob It's so ironic that you come in saying I'm arrogant when you are the one coming in with a chip on his shoulder who spouts out assumptions. It's not even "non-real" in math terms. It's not an imaginary thing. It is not a mathematical entity whatsoever. It's like saying, "There's a rope with no end and a rock tied to the end." It doesn't make any sense.
This is the graph of y=1/x At x=0, y is both positive and negative, so it can't be infinity. The y value as x approaches 0 does not exist, but it does as x approaches 0 from either the positive or negative side.

Welcome to extremely basic calculus. Enjoy your stay.
I think you mean ignorant, and he's trying to explain infinity to you.
I believe I understand what infinity is, or at least I've already known of the examples given of what infinity is. I know it "goes on forever" and "never starts and never stops"
Let's come in an posit shit that's never came out of my mouth
I mean, you did kind of come in and say "the math makes sense" and tried to explain your theory...also you said that you "understand" that you can't divide by zero, but the math makes it "seem" like you can. I never said you are trying to overthrow the previous theories, just that they are already established and have been debated. Apologies if it seemed at first like you had some new idea, but rather I understand that you are just trying to figure it out. Regardless. You can get CLOSE to infinity but you never actually hit it. It's called a limit. It's one of the three big parts of basic calculus, along with integrals and derivatives.
@bob It's so ironic that you come in saying I'm arrogant when you are the one coming in with a chip on his shoulder who spouts out assumptions. Wait, wait, 0,99999 doesn't instantly equal 1, only 0.9 periodic. In the case of 1/3 * 3, it doesn't really apply to this, since 3/3 = 1. In the case of 0.33 periodic, multiplied by 3 equals 1, you can explain it through either the fractional representation, or as an equation, put simply In the case of 0, it's also explainable through equations. 6 / 0 = x, x * 0 = 6. What possible number would yield 6 after being multiplied by 0? Not a real number of course. That's the easy explanations, of course. There's like a million ways to express it, through series, through graphs and the like, you just gotta find it. And as for infinity. It can be treated as a number, just not as a real number.

We'll call the number required to make the zero cancel out called M, m when multiplied by zero equals one. so in the case of x * 0 = 6, the answer is 6M, or in vocal terms, 6 magics. I'm joking here but I also don't understand the purpose of making a term for the root of a negative number. If it doesn't exist, why make it exist?
To gain greater understanding. Conceptual stuff I'd guess.
I'm joking here but I also don't understand the purpose of making a term for the root of a negative number. If it doesn't exist, why make it exist?
Very useful in circuits.

It's a question I posted, not a statement. Regardless, do you understand this (the math aspect) now?
Find the impedance of an LC circuit, for instance, can be done without the use of imaginary numbers but they make it much easier.
You never directly said it but you implied it when 'the average teen comes in to overturn years of debate from the mathematical geniuses'
And this is where the waters get murky. The thread is effectively over now, I have a better understanding of why you cannot divide by 1/0.0..1, which was my main problem in the first place.
You cannot divide by 0, you're putting something into no groups. There is no answer.
That would make it 0 since there are no groups.
Well, at least he's been as far as decided to use even go want to do look more like.
I figure the exact same thing in calculus.
Undefined, kthnxbai.
finite = something that you can point to. something that is ONE thing. IE 1. infinite = not ^^; something that has no viewable state. An unknown. prefex in = not. So using some English. you know it is not infinite. because infinite, while non tangible, is still existent. When you divide by zero, you effectively make everything that is divided, into nothing. But it still exist. So it is not infinite because it does not exist yet still exist. The state is infinite, yet the actual object is not.
0 divided by anything is infinity
Not how it works. If you have no pieces of bread, and split it up amongst 3 people, each person has no bread. Also, that analogy doesn't work for divided by zero ^. In response to OP, 0.1 is not 0, and neither is
0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001
And the divided by zero only works with divided by ZERO, now whatever that it^. It may be EXTREMELY close to zero, but it isn't zero and thus you can still divide those three pieces of bread into something. Also, Infinity isn't a number, it's more of a concept. Even thinking of infinity as an increasing number is wrong, because it isn't growing, it just is and it goes on for absolutely ever.
JohnnyMo1 answered the question in the first page. 1/0 is undefined, however the limit of 1/x as x goes to 0 = infinity. There is a vertical asymptote at x=0 if you graph it. ITT: Too many people answering without qualification or full understanding of his question. His original question is of calculus grade, if you haven't taken it you shouldn't be answering as you will confuse him and screw up his studies.
I think defining what infinite is would be a better way to help answer the question. Seeing as it is one of the few English things that I found to be pretty much black and white. Also, a ton of people in this thread need i circles.
