I'll never understand why there's this odd obsession outside of Europe (Particularly the US) with all things medieval, but by all things medieval they mean castles (Right), kings and queens (Right), knights (Right), peasants (Right), Wizards (Wait, those weren't really -), Magic (Hang on that was just tri-) Dragons (No, stop you're getting mix-) and Excalibur (Alright fuck this). It'd be all fine and dandy if there didn't seem to be a portion of people who genuinely can't tell the difference between real history and fantasy/shit derived from stories at the time or made up in the Renaissance for chuckles) I was going to post this elsewhere but it was far too much for what was effectively a rant with no help for the OP. And I had to post it somewhere. Because I'm shit like that.
no u
I'm American so I obsess over medieval things? The only people I know like that are LARPers. Get your facts straight before you look like an ass.

It's big, heavy, ugly, and weird.

got an exam on feminism tomorrow o shit
An exam on feminism? Is that some sort of compulsory course over there or is it more like a look into the movement's history sort of thing?
I wrote a poem.
There once was a cat named Jet He was a very, very good pet He chased a bee Skinned his knee And had to go to the vet [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] I think.... I am going to buy a laptop.
I think.... I am going to buy a laptop.
Good choice, laptops are the best computers.
Well I could spend $1000 to completely revamp my desktop that I won't really have much time to use on account of school or I could get a laptop that I could use a lot. Problem is I don't know diddly about laptops. I want one whose battery will last though.
ask in the hardware section
An exam on feminism? Is that some sort of compulsory course over there or is it more like a look into the movement's history sort of thing?
It was an optional module in philosophy, and I left it too late to choose any subsids outside of the department, so I basically had to do it. Funnily enough, my coursework grade has been better in feminism than any of the other subjects so I don't really regret doing it right now, haha.
Good choice, laptops are the best computers.
Depends on what your situation is. Of course if you need something portable they win against a desktop machine. But desktops won't age nearly as fast, they can be customized to a much greater extent than a laptop, they're easier to maintain / more practical to repair. [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] I would also never choose a laptop for anything gaming related (aside from casual games). Desktops are hands down a better choice there. Same goes for 3D modeling / rendering / other CPU & GPU heavy multimedia related tasks.

I (used to) model on it, and all PC games I buy I play on it. Of course, it can't play shit like Crysis well, and I have lagging issues playing The Ball, but for all the other games I play it works like a charm. The portability makes this even more awesome.

You would never see anything real heavy being rendered on laptops, they just don't offer the same level of power that a desktop can (well, unless we're talking about those crazy $2,000+ laptops...which are an absolute waste). As for gaming - sure, they can run most games a desktop can run...but that doesn't mean they'll run nearly as well. It depends on the game in question. They still age faster. Once your GPU starts losing ground...that's it. Same goes for your CPU unless you can find a replacement (and they're generally very expensive and not worth it for the small performance increase). Reliability is also another area where desktops will generally win. The components just aren't subjected to the same level of heat that you find in a laptop. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash laptops or anything. I think they're great. But I wouldn't pick them over a strong desktop machine.
Hey, Zorlok, could you post any of your work? I'll be going to school for the 3D stuff next year. Also, what kind of desktop do you have?
he have dell
Hey, Zorlok, could you post any of your work? I'll be going to school for the 3D stuff next year. Also, what kind of desktop do you have?
Well the stuff I've personally modeled isn't too advanced. I was just using that as a general plus that desktop machines have. I've just done some light modeling with mechanical things like gears or engines on 3DShit Max / Google Sketchup. I've tried Blender too...I guess that was alright. Oh and I've tried that Z-Brush program before. That was cool. Also my desktop is custom built by me. I always build them. I'm sure you've seen pictures of it before:
Yeah, I've seen it before, mine's custom built too but it's getting old. What are your specs? Mine: Phenom II X2 555 @ 3.7 4GB DDR2 800MHz Western Digital 500GB HDD (it's literally taped together at this point) ATI Radeon HD 4830 512MB

I will probably build a desktop sometime in the future, but I've reserved that point until I have a steady source of income to acquire good parts, and a place to put it in. I picked the components when ordering it specifically so that it should last me awhile, because I know that laptop parts are static and can't be upgraded unless it's built from a barebones shell, and I didn't have the money or time to do so.
