It still zips right along, although I'll probably look at buying one of those Sandy Bridge chips sometime this year. So that will mean a new motherboard and some RAM too. The 5870 definitely stays for now.

I seem to have no luck with overclocking... Plus my computer runs rather warm compared to the temperatures I see other people post. I think that may have something to do with how humid Oregon is though.

I just have to bump the vcore from 1.23 to 1.25 on mine to see 3.8. If I keep it at 3.6 or under I can more or less get away with the stock setting.
Been at least 6 months since I bothered trying to overclock mine. I think the best result I had managed was 3Ghz even but it would lock up after 1-6 hours depending on what I was doing.

Nice jumping to conclusions. I'm saying there are people outside of Europe who obsess over all things medieval but don't seem to see a difference between fantasy and reality. You're not going to see a medieval theme restaurant in Cologne for example.

Only a q9400. I couldn't quite afford a q9550 when I built it.

Well..even then you should still be able to hit at least 3.6GHz.
Maybe it's your motherboard, or RAM. Or you might have to go and fine tune some of the voltage settings after upping the speed.

Maybe, yeah. What about the temperature though? My average temperature on 3/4 cores is about 45ºC with the main core averaging 48-50ºC and this is just with Steam, Firefox, and my AV running. That's about 20ºC higher than what most people report on similar builds.
Or you could just be in the same situation I'm in and need to throw your computer in the trash!

Mmm...that's not absolutely horrible, but that does seem a little high for idle/light load. What cooler do you have? Maybe you should look into reapplying your thermal paste.

I have the same cooler that you have in the image you posted earlier.
Fuck it, I'm just going to go buy a new memory card. By the time I get back with it the old one should show up.

Hm...yeah mine are around 33/34/34/36 right now. Core 3 on my CPU is always higher than the others.
