...far bigger problem than SJW's or whatever, and it's funny how this anti-corporatist sentiment that people used to support so wholeheartedly has just been completely abandoned over the space of like three months because feminism got involved.
This is a corporate issue and an issue with modern feminism. The corporations are disconnected and have somehow come under the impression that its these puritanical feminists that demand their games. They grew up to ignore the right wing censorship mob but now kowtow to a new group that wants to censor their works. Modern feminists (usually not avid gamers) have taken up the idea that the sexualization of women of women in videogames leads to sexism in reality. They've also embraced the idea that violence in videogames means violence in real life, since the feminism thing wouldn't make sense otherwise. Individuals like Anita have been pushed to demigod status in the games industry for this very reason and people in the games industry see that.
it's jack thompson all over again, but it's all advocacy and labeling with no push for legislation
Military Time needs to become standard for all fields of life. Seriously, fuck AM/PM, lets get straight to 0000 hours to 2400 hours.
That's just simply 24 Hour format, not military time (or microwave time). [editline]18th January 2016[/editline] You also have to adapt to the metric measure system.
I'm going to post a response I made in another thread here and link to it so that thread doesn't get super derailed. I think they should be able to release these games but it won't change my opinion that they're incredibly stupid and probably a product of something larger. Sometimes I feel like game developers think of gamers as mouth-breathers and both unable and unwilling to want some decent female characters without this nonsense. I don't have a smoking gun for this because it's not a universal problem and I don't think it needs a universal solution, however what irritates me is when in a game like Smite transforms a God like Neith into something stupid. [t]https://cowofgold.wikispaces.com/file/view/neith.jpg/88197211/neith.jpg[/t][t]http://i1.2pcdn.com/node14/image/article/201305/21/20130521214426a0dhc3v0wslh5xdo.jpg[/t] And she isn't the worst of the Smite gods either, and that also isn't delving into ridiculous skins or anything either. What would be the incentive for someone to turn something already interesting like Neith, who already has an interesting origin story and a unique look that could be expanded upon, into that? It's needless sexualization of a character that didn't need it and, I'd argue, complete character assassination. Sex isn't bad and neither is sexualization - when used in specific ways it can really add to character's personalities and reinforce its own elements of humanity, but in instances like these I believe it's pandering in place of doing something actually interesting. It's a lot easier to get gamers to pop boners than to actually identify with someone past the gender barrier and while people will call me out for wanting a "safe space", it's playing it safe to do anything other than create someone interesting. Unless the game is specifically focused on pushing ridiculous extremes (which isn't hard to do and explain) and is fair with that across the board (i.e. super-stylized 007-style action game, hilariously overly buff men and mega-boob women fighter, etc.), I think it's lame and they should feel called out for being subpar.
What are you talking about? Gods and Goddess at the time were all heavily sexualized, especially the Greek pantheon. They were supposed to represent the very best looking, intelligent, strong and endurable of humanity. That's what made Greek tragedies involving the gods so important, because even if they are the best, they're still fallible. Plus the fact that before people started getting mad about the representation of the Goddesses, a lot of their powers actually related to backstory and you could actually read the legends and backstories for each of the Smite characters. You're basically talking out your ass and conflating developers not knowing some sort of 'ancient Egyptian dance' and a meme because why not.
I'm pretty sure Neith's tits are out in that picture too.
You have to admit though, 'complete character assassination' sounds fucking brutal
everybody wants to look as sexually attractive as they can, and then they get mad when people are portrayed as being sexually attractive I don't get it
double standards
I work at an art museum, one that primarily houses an impressive gallery of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman statues. Of these statues there is a common theme. Nearly everyone is naked and really fit. There are exceptions, such as Athena being in full armor but for the most part they're all super sexualized and idealized people. I mean for christ's sake, on one of them a woman has a tunic on but her nipples are rock solid and can be seen through the toga. Like, the sculptor added that detail in thousands of years ago! And others that do have clothes on, their either showing their tits, or a lot of muscle depending if the statue is of a dude or chick. Not to mention originally every dude's dick was hanging out. Edit: Klio, the muse of history and solid nipples (sorry bout the bad pic, im at work) [t]http://i.imgur.com/ipKYOVA.jpg[/t]

I have absolutely no daddy fetish whatsoever, which apparently seems to be REALLY popular among girls I know. Not in to dudes wearing suits, not in to arty BDSM, Fifty Shades of Grey holds no appeal, 100 percent not in to it.
I feel like that's a way huger thing in porn than in real life
I have absolutely no daddy fetish whatsoever, which apparently seems to be REALLY popular among girls I know. Also, we'd be on the metric system if we actually had the guts to force it through. Technically, it's officially how we measure things, and our science community generally uses it (E.g., in my math classes, we used feet for gravity, but in physics, we used meters). Most containers have both measurements on them, such as if you look at liquids, it'll usually have the volume in small text using metric units, at this point manufacturers should be made to not use the imperial measurements, and schools should teach completely with metric in mind.
Fahrenheit makes much more sense for everyday use; 0 is super cold, 100 is super hot. that's pretty intuitive. The only people who would appreciate C's scientific rigor are mentally equipped to switch between systems anyway.
Fahrenheit makes much more sense for everyday use; 0 is super cold, 100 is super hot. that's pretty intuitive. If you grew up in literally any other country in the world, you'd recognise 40 or some shit as being super hot, and 5 as being super cold. Hell, even with celsius, 100 is water boiling at standard pressure (super fucking hot), and 0 is the freezing of water (super fucking cold). The argument holds no fucking water.

undertale's writing and characters are pure shit vomited from the bowels of tumblr but the music is so nice, i cant stop listening to it.
I hope you appreciate the incredible irony of this post, because you just argued against using base ten as a system of measurement
Except I didn't. How the fuck is arguing for celsius arguing against a base ten system of measurement?
it's jack thompson all over again, but it's all advocacy and labeling with no push for legislation
There is a push for legislation. Fortunately its being fought against in most countries
i mean larry probst doesn't know who anita is, he's a 65 year old man with a $6 billion business to run. he doesn't care about demigods in the games industry unless the canaries in marketing tell him to.
Good video summarizing the issue.
i prefer binary and base 16 (hexadecimal) over base ten because my brain naturally does math better with those systems. i can cube numbers in my head in hexadecimal but have trouble subtracting in the double digits. what the fuck brain???
you're insane
I hope you appreciate the incredible irony of this post, because you just argued against using base ten as a system of measurement
Your base ten measurement is shit, though. That's like saying that the imperial system of length is a base ten system because ten feet is "slightly long", 100 feet is "fairly long" and 1000 feet is "very long". Fahrenheit would have been a better from of measurement if, say, room temperature, the borderline between cold and hot, is 50 degrees, but it isn't. The numbers are arbitrary and we can give them milestones because we're so used to it. Celsius has intervals that have solid intervals grounded by basic physics. Sure I use imperial because flagdog but I wish I was raised on metric.
Fahrenheit would have been a better from of measurement if, say, room temperature, the borderline between cold and hot, is 50 degrees, but it isn't.
50F is a decent demarcation. That's the "jacket weather" line.
Well I consider below 60 degrees jacket weather. And now your demarcation now has no meaning because the only significance 50 degrees has is "What Sector 7 things Jacket weather is." The closest milestone I can see Fahrenheit having that makes sense is that 100 degrees is almost the normal temperature for the human body, but afaik that 's just coincidence.
Kelvin makes no sense for day-to-day use though. We use water as a metric because it's the substance we literally interact with the most. Absolute zero is meaningless to everyday life.
neither fahrenheit or celsius are particularly better than either for everyday use, but celsius is used nearly everywhere so IMO it should be used by default
everybody wants to look as sexually attractive as they can, and then they get mad when people are portrayed as being sexually attractive I don't get it
I don't have a problem with sexual attraction. I finished watching the Twin Peaks series and a lot of the characters are very sexually playful, and it's an important component of their character. (It might be considered a spoiler to watch past :45, but I don't think it's a show-ruiner by doing so.) Sex can provide depth to characters but it can't take people all the way. It can't be a replacement for their character. Audery Horne without sexualization ruins her character, but Audery Horne with only her sexualization glosses over very important factors of her personality. I do think it's a problem that people have become afraid of sex and have become afraid of characters looking sexy - that's not my fear. I don't fear that. I'm just bored when it's the centerpiece of the character. I feel like I'm being pandered to. I can handle a little more with my characters. [t]http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/smite.gamepedia.com/2/27/T_NuWa_XmasElf_Card.png?version=2aeed8bcf1ee072d4e 163efc194b5877[/t] Smite overall has some really stupid skins and characters anyway so I might file the game under "general silliness" and "kinda justified", but it's still bothersome. It's especially bothersome when, like I said previously, Neith's victory animation is literally Carmelldansen. That's why I said "character assassination", because they're willing to reference the sexuality of the character but ditch everything else in place for a dumb joke. It makes it harder to say "I like Neith because she's interesting" because they're not willing to take it seriously. [editline]18th January 2016[/editline]
They were supposed to represent the very best looking, intelligent, strong and endurable of humanity. Failing to address that aspect is to invalidate who they are. You just can't change that! Hey man, some changes have to be made because they're not trying to get the character down to the smallest detail. Making her into what is essentially a silly little anime school girl dancing is fine. But don't forget the sex, because Egyptian gods were sexy. I like that."
