Unpopular Opinions V5: "I still don't like Half Life 2."

Monogamy is a creation of society, and we're naturally not suited to just have a single life and sexual partner.
I believe that it is healthy to shake up sexual partners once in a while, even if you still maintain a relationship with one person - but only at the agreement of both parties.
I can still understand the thought of someone being upset if their partner spent a night with someone else, even if a societal stigma is partially driving that. Because monogamy can genuinely be what makes both parties happy.
Basically just be honest, and only do what's within your relationship's limitations, but don't attack other couples for choosing what works for their relationship. E.g. hating on open relationships.
I think that the statement
"There was a farmer, who had a dog, and Bingo was his name-o"
leaves ambiguous whether Bingo is the farmer or the dog.

White people are a net positive on the world.

I think there's a bit of the naturalistic fallacy in there. I mean, just because it's natural (in what way to which people in what society at what time may I ask?), doesn't necessarily imply utility or applicability to our own society.
White people are a net positive on the world.
I wonder how many people automatically assume you're white because you say stuff in this vein somewhat often.
White people are a net positive on the world.
can anyone explain the funny ratings? (other than 'white' being culturally and ethnically ambiguous)
The PS2's analog buttons were a good idea but poorly executed, you had to apply too much pressure and after playing a gmae that uses them enough, my thumb starts to ache. Games that don't have this don't give me the same problem
That's why games rarely use them. they're pretty much purely optional buttons, i know very few games that use them in a way where you actually have to press them to play the game to its full
spyhunter for the ps2 did this
i spent two weeks not progressing in the game because i didn't know what L3 was
[editline]20th February 2016[/editline]
same with not knowing how to do a manual in THPS2
i finally realized: it was the d-pad
White people are a net positive on the world.
There are some pretty cool white people out there. Paul McCartney, that dancing old man in the Six Flags commercials, the list goes on...
plus, white people make the best villains, and everyone knows the villain makes the story
Dying Light has terrible melee combat when it comes to fighting human AI.
In my opinion, console gaming, to a degree, is a bit better than PC gaming.
i don't think that's an unpopular opinion, even the game encourages you to just pop their heads by conveniently laying guns around human enemy hotspots
I've covered 10% of the game so far, and as nice as the parkour/open-world/exploration aspects are, fighting humans is a huge turn off. The AI always appears to have a buff, because they so easily shrug off melee attacks and roll with the punches like it's nothing at all. I also really don't like how delayed certain animations are, if they appear at all. Like say I use some throwing stars at one of Rais' men, and they do that cheap deflecting animation. Half of the time I'll notice throwing stars just bounce off of them without them having actually done the deflecting move they do. I'm playing on hard too (a mistake I regret, but I really don't feel like replaying through 12+ hours), so it really isn't as fun as it could be.

I was talking to my friend when it showed that tip and I missed it
Lemonade is overrated, Lime juice is where it's at.
If 1 person has some issue and needs accommodation, should every place in america accommodate that single person?
you dont realize it, but youre actually 100% correct. if one person has an issue, they need to get over it. that one person with the issue is the person thats uncomfortable in the bathroom. why should there be laws forcing transpeople into the wrong bathrooms just to accomodate the one uncomfortable person?
thanks for seeing it my way :smug:
there's human enemies and zombie enemies
the human enemies have this wierdass invincibility frame shit where your hits don't quite connect but still do a tiny bit of damage and blood splatter, it's really unsatisfying to melee them
[editline]21st February 2016[/editline]
you pretty much just need to use a gun, alternatively stealth kill them or do the drop 1 handed melee attack for instant kills
Human enemies are also susceptible to the redirect/trip you can do to zombies that are lunging at you.
It's actually supa ez to fuck them up.
i try to deliberately be neutral about all this shit
if youre gay and someone hates you "for being gay" they dont hate you for being gay, they hate you for being flamboyant. being flamboyant is your choice. for someone to actually hate someone for being homosexual then why would you bother paying them any attention
Plenty of people hate gays for just being gay.
I see where you're coming from though. Gays are just normal people like everybody else but their representation has always been awful. Gay Pride especially.
Transpeople have the same issue. Only the worst transpeople are getting attention right now and they're always calling people they disagree with transphobic. Meanwhile the silent majority just cringes.

lemonade is only good when there's no sugar
if you disagree you probably drink peach bellinis
I think user-based rating systems on the internet poison the well of free thought by conditioning visitor's reaction to content
this is especially apparent on reddit, where any front-page news item is generally treated as an inflammatory call-to-arms, no matter how sensationalized or incorrect. a quick visit to /r/politics will strongly indicate that Bernie Sanders is literally the second coming of secular Jesus, because that is the narrative that the community has elected. (I'm down with bernie but the blatant personality worship is gross.)
if someone has a lot of dumb ratings here, whatever they posted will lose validity no matter what the content actually is.
I feel like I've posted about this in here but I'm not sure, but I love filler episodes
yeah nothing happens but, hey, nothing happens, it's a great chance for a show that's got a really busy plot to take a break for a while, which can feel kinda relaxing, and it usually has a lot of nice character moments and interaction since they're not focusing on other stuff and are just sort of chilling together
Filler episodes done in moderation can be really awesome, like taking time away from the main plot to flesh out a character or just seeing how everyone's like when shit's not hitting the fan all the time.
Going to an arc of pure filler literally in the middle of another story arc is pretty shitty however.

That's because of the way that Reddits rating system works.
Posts are moved based off of ratings, which is a really shitty thing.
The greatest thing about Facepunchs system is that it allows you to express your opinion without it really affecting anything, and it can be turned off

Twin Peaks was full of masterful filler, I think, because all the filler became major plot points of their own.

Reddit has this system where the votes obtained in the first hour or so of a post's life have massively more impact than the rest of the votes, which means that headlines and shorter content will naturally get way more immediate votes than content that's lengthy or requires some thought. The fact that really negative posts get hidden is the worst part about reddit, I've had proper sourced shit get nuked just because it doesn't fit the narrative while rumours and heresay stay at the top 'cause it's what people want to hear (FP is kind of similar in how it reacts to things (SH is full of total gimps who don't even read the articles) but at least dumb ratings don't nuke a thread out of existence)
I think the rating system would be better if for the first 12 hours of a post's life you couldn't see what other people rated

Filler episodes are good for pacing out inbetween events, constant drama just gets draining
Twin Peaks was full of masterful filler, I think, because all the filler became major plot points of their own.
Until the second half of season two, where it became almost entirely filler.
God, Twin Peaks makes me mad. It's so amazing, but so bad.
I don't like zombies from a scientific aspect. No, I don't mean the whole "ATP required for muscle movement" and whatever, I let that slide into the Rule of Cool, it's just that biting is a really shitty way of spreading a disease.
Even if the zombies are somehow able to keep their jaw strength and exert the maximum possible bite force, the amount of saliva required to enter the bloodstream to cause significant infection would be enormous.
You'd probably get infected easier by fucking a zombie than having it bite you.

It redeems itself in the last few episodes IMO.
