I feel like its the same thing with stuff like pandas too. Everyone always goes off about saving them because they are pretty adorable, but there are a lot more animals in the world who are just as endangered, if not more endangered than pandas but they never get the attention because they do not look soft and cuddly. Tuna are kind of boring looking, if not ugly, while dolphins are seen as magestic and stuff, so that is why people care so much about saving them but overlook the serious overfishing of all tuna species going on, nevertheless the other endangered sea creatures getting caught in the nets
I also think a big part of it is that a lot of people just don't give a shit about fish because they're fish which is also pretty sad.
The Arab oil states (UAE, Saudi, etc) will collapse before midcentury, and Dubai will return to the desert sands whence it came in the next thirty years. They're all run by gerontocratic inbreds using oil money and a careful balancing of political factions to keep their countries chugging along on fumes. Expats are already finding it hard there (moreso than usual) and once the vain construction projects end and budgets tighten they're all going to jump ship and cities like Dubai will enter an irreversible economic decline much like Detroit (but much worse).
For the most part they will last as long as the oil does. Dubai will be the exception though. They're positioning themselves as the financial hub between Europe and the Far East and I reckon they'll succeed. It won't be as fabulous as it is currently but it will have some staying power.
I'm starting to get a bit sick of several fictions using homosexual relationships as a source of endless drama (I'm reading the webcomic Spinnerette, if that helps understanding the context)

Remember that domestic oil consumption is rapidly rising and these countries are extremely reliant on importing food and desalinating water (both of which are ultimately unsustainable as they are running out of both). The financial hub they project themselves to be is largely hot air. Hong Kong became a powerhouse because it serves as a major trade hub and entry into China for the past two centuries. Dubai is a city literally built on sand. When you subtract oil from the equation, these places have nothing to go on save for economic cannibalism and predatory behavior. The ruling house of Dubai had to sell off major assets in 2008 just to avoid economic disaster. Even with massive oil wealth much of their populations reside in poverty, while unemployment is typically 15% or more (even higher among the young).
Why are we even trying to save pandas? They're too lazy to breed or eat something that has actual nutritional value.
there is a joke about greece to be made here but i dont wanna get banned
Undertale needs to get nuked
I still don't know what Undertale is and I am actively avoiding it until people shut the fuck up about it.
It's basically a old school RPG with that obnoxious 8-bit galore that makes many people get wet in their pants, features memetic funny skeletons (because skeletons are funny) and allow the playable character to flirt with NPCs of different sexes and races and complete the whole thing without killing anyone, two features we have never seen in any RPG whatsoever, am I right?

I didn't even crack a smile at some of the "funny" images in the FP Undertale thread And yet, everyone seems to be enjoying it Have our standards just gotten really low? The game is obviously pandering to its audience, hard. how can people so shamelessly accept that?
Why do you even care in the first place? If people like it, they like it. I keep seeing Undertale related shit everywhere and it doesn't bother me one bit, and I'm not even interested in playing at all. [editline]asad[/editline]
Have our standards just gotten really low? It's literally what all devs do when making a game.
idc about undertale, it's probably pretty good, but i'd prefer it if people stopped jumping onto trends like a 12yo kid with ADHD on acid

I found Undertale fun for the first hour but the shtick got old and obnoxious at times It's no-where near a GOTY, people really exaggerated this game
I found Undertale fun for the first hour but the shtick got old and obnoxious at times It's no-where near a GOTY, people really exaggerated this game
Exactly. It should have only ever gotten as popular as Off.
IMO Undertale is a genuinely good game with very clever implementation of gameplay choices (the games bosses truly excel at teaching you a pattern and then using your gamer instincts against you.) This combined with good writing and a truly excellent and rather large soundtrack give it a lot of character. A stark difference in comparison to many AAA games where teams a 1000 men strong with a huge budget fail to deliver even the slightest wiff of empathy. However when something is good people will always repeat and grind it down and make inferior content in an attempt to praise it. Something can be good and still have an obnoxious fanbase. Undertale isn't a revolutionary title but its damned good at what it sets out to do and in its genre its among the best of them.
idk why people call it "memetastic" I guess there are some memes, but most of the humour is based on puns. Which is my kind of shit so makes sense I'd love it. but that's not everyones forte so i don't expect everyone to like. It's not like say, borderlands 2 where they had to just force in internet memes no matter how poorly fit they were.
Why are we even trying to save pandas? They're too lazy to breed or eat something that has actual nutritional value.
Pandas are legit retarded bears. There was a study (or studies) done a few years ago that showed they have many symptoms that would indicate that most, if not all pandas suffer from Downs syndrome or something of a similar effect. I just wish I could find said studies now. But it does explain a lot about their behavior. This situation happens so much these days and yet people are still quick to jump on the "it's a bad game" bandwagon just because of the people who like it, instead of realizing the common trend and amending their statements.

Yep, exactly. Same type of audience, too. [editline]10th November 2015[/editline] Though I cant say that Homestuck was anything but dreck with a straight face.
It's too popular for what it is. People just need to admit that.
Or you're just a hipster and need to admit that.
Im thinking its cold out side and wish it were colder.
Or you're just a hipster and need to admit that.
What even is the meaning of "hipster", every time that word is used its to relegate someone's negative comment about a certain topic that the user of the word approves of and I really don't understand how that works, it seems... childish? A little insecurity that someone doesn't enjoy something as much? People have different opinions on the game so why does someone having an opposite opinion of you brings up some online slang to attempt an insult at them?

I believe they are connoisseurs of non main stream stuff. That if you really need a definition.
Or you're just a hipster and need to admit that.
That was ... underwhelming, I expected better
Or you're just a hipster and need to admit that.
Nothing wrong with disliking something that a lot of people love. Contrarian at worst but c'mon with the backhanded insults [editline]10th November 2015[/editline]
It's ok if you don't like the game, but if It's because "It's too popular" then that's dumb.
Not really. It's common for a dislike of popular things because (in this case) the fanbase is toxic/irritating enough that it ruins the product. Using the Homestuck example again, the fanbase ruined a few cons because the sheer amount of them flooding conventions unrelated to the material with their stupid bullshit
re: undertale's overpopularity [t]http://i.imgur.com/oTZVQk9.png[/t] it has great writing and memorable characters and scenes, but people that defend its mechanics and graphics make me laugh.

Undertale is a great game. It made me feel things I've never felt while playing a game before and I'd put it on the top 15 best games I've played at least. Problem is the fanbase quickly fell into shit only a few weeks after the game hit Steam. I blame all the porn. There usually seems to be a correlation between porn of characters, especially ones that weren't intended to be sexually attractive, and shit fanbases. When an affinity for a game or show starts to become a fetish then one might have a problem.
