Diablo2-style Tetris inventory systems are the pinnacle of video game inventory design and every single game should have them no weight management no tabs for different types of stuff no expectation that the player is going to carry every single paperclip they come across every item is perfectly represented by itself and you can see all of its attributes with a simple mouse-over every item can be transferred intuitively by clicking and placing it's perfect
high heels are unnecessary and dumb and whoever wears them looks like a tryhard
high heels are unnecessary and dumb and whoever wears them looks like a tryhard
A tryhard? Really?
I dislike exaggerated designs in any media that tries to take itself seriously. Like I hate designs like this [thumb]http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111209055251/elderscrolls/images/2/26/Daedric_Armor_(Skyrim).jpg[/thumb] I don't think it looks cool or complimentary or anything like that. The only circumstance I'd use that is if I got a mod that toned it down 200%. [editline]24th November 2015[/editline] Also I'm not in the slightest interested in RLM's Half in the Bag. And it kinda saddens me that it's all of note that they do now.
A tryhard? Really?
in fashion, when i mean tryhard i mean someone who tries to look sexy/fashionable but ends up looking dumb

It's like RPG model artists have no clue how heavy metal actually is. I won't lie, I actually kinda like those sorts of overdone designs. They're super impractical, but they have a sort of narmy charm to them.
what is fiction
I won't lie, I actually kinda like those sorts of overdone designs. They're super impractical, but they have a sort of narmy charm to them.
It can also be genuinely useful to be able to tell weapons apart from a quick glance in certain games.
high heels are unnecessary and dumb and whoever wears them looks like a tryhard
Considering how judgmental people are based on height they totally make sense to wear though. IMO at least some of the issues that are presented as gender related are probably actually just height related (women are shorter then average).
I won't lie, I actually kinda like those sorts of overdone designs. They're super impractical, but they have a sort of narmy charm to them.
That's why I specified "that tries to take itself seriously" If someone wants shit like that in like, Final Fantasy or Devil May Cry, then fine, that's the style they're going for. In things like Elder Scrolls it just looks out of place and dumb. Since those games seem to be atleast trying to make most items within the realm of practicality.

Do your kitchen knives at home have curvy spikes that poke backwards into your hand?
the problem i have with it is less that the armor would be heavy as fuck and more that stuff like those shoulderpads would make it either impossible or really hard to move your arms above your shoulders.
i'd only give daedric armor a free pass because it's used by demons who probably are strong enough to handle any amount of weight thrown at them, as well as the armor probably being forged in some chaotic hellfire bullshit or something
But you're wearing it yourself as a non-demon. That's ignoring that regardless of weight, it'd be unwearable even if it was feather light because it's just geometrically unusable for anything shaped like a human due to all the cruel angles and spikes sticking out. Not to mention it's also a recurring thing with orc designs. [thumb]http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/elderscrolls/images/d/da/OrcishGreatsword_SK.png/revision/latest?cb=20121013014518[/thumb] Not only would that shit weigh 30 lbs, it'd be completely unbalanced. It'd be like swinging a giant, sharp cast-iron pan. It's not like this is typical elder scrolls style either, this really just became an issue with Skyrim so I suspect it less being creative vision and more just shit weapon design.
what is fiction
fiction is: ...vastly improved by having a believable universe? unless the protagonist hails from Metalhandia, the land where men may safely handle weapons made entirely of spikes. Many of the weapons are impractical, or downright just shitty. A lot of the swords are giant, thick, blunt paddles instead of anything you'd actually want. Many of them bear little resemblance to what actual swords look like, from how fat and ugly they are. A lot of later armors are ugly or put you in a dumb spiky thing that makes your character lose all identity since you look the exact same as everyone else wearing, for instance, ebony armor. But the king of all assitry is THIS [t]http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/elderscrolls/images/1/18/Iron_Helmet_SK.png/revision/latest?cb=20121023001836[/t] I'm sure you all know by now why this is shit. I'm not all that upset by it, and I appreciate that they're fiction, yes, but these designs are impractical and stupid in any universe. There is nothing physically stopping you from taking advantage of the glaring stupidity of that helmet. There's nothing preventing you taking advantage of the fact that people don't know how to fight with swords in Skyrim. It speaks less of fantasy and more of a lack of effort in the designs, and it can take me out of it when it's too obvious. I don't mind designs that are more extravagant, but I'd like them to be at least functional as weapons and armor. Can't find anything about the armors though unfortunately. Though I'm not 100% sure what you're asking for in regard to armor not making you look similar to people wearing the same armor. I'm assuming you're referring to all the close-faced helmets. I don't see anything wrong with face-concealing helmets since those are there for a practical purpose(to make it so your face doesn't get cut off) and if you don't like it then the issue can be negated by just wearing the armor sans helmet or wearing a different helmet.
what is fiction
This reminds me, I hate it when scifi is used to just justify cool shit. Science Fiction doesn't mean fictional science.
...I actually don't
Big horns that serve no purpose except to get grabbed to either yank the helmet off your head or to get easy leverage for wrestling you to the ground. Not to mention they'd add unnecessary weight and be clunky, I mean imagine trying to walk through door frames wearing that thing.

And it doesn't look very comfortable either.

And it doesn't look very comfortable either.
Iron helmets on their own are much heavier than they look. It depends whether those horns are hollow or not, if not then that's adding a few pounds to what's already a pretty rough weight to have on your head.

And it doesn't look very comfortable either.
nah, that style of helmet (minus the horns and the armor skirt on the rear) was pretty ubiquitous within the last two thousand years. You wouldn't wear a helmet like that without wearing padded headgear underneath, so it sits pretty snugly on the head.

I think the project is dead, or at least rolling so slow it'll never finish, but the armors are pretty nice. They look better than the screenshots you see there since the textures were updated post-release. These Roman armors are pretty good from what I can tell. If the Credo imperials or Roman armors aren't your thing, I suggest Perfect Legionairre. It makes the Legion armor look quite a bit better and also makes them more practical by adding sleeves and leggings to help with the cold climate. It also changes the Imperial swords and shields in to a gladius and tower shield. You can even choose if you want the Imperial colors to be red or blue, depending on whether you like the way they were depicted in Morrowind or Skyrim more. Improved Closefaced Helmets opens up all the helmets so you can see your character's face underneath, which in my opinion is more immersive and helps preserve their identity in better armors, and since it's a mesh change, it's compatible with texture mods. On the weapon side, the Albion Swords are VERY nice and there's a few more out there you can find that are high quality, practical designs. You might also find some weapons and armors you like here. This bow mod makes the bows look a lot better and more realistic, and I don't know a whole lot about bows but it seems like this guy knows what he's talking about and they look good so. This shield mod is pretty great. If anyone knows any more realistic armor and weapon mods or clothes mods that make the game's culture and designs closer to real life cultural equivalents, please to let me know. I love that shit.
high heels are unnecessary and dumb and whoever wears them looks like a tryhard
i'm actually kinda pissed i can't wear heels without being over 6 feet.
...I actually don't
Like someone else said, horns are impractical on helmets. They'd make the helmet heavier, but the big thing is that they serve no functional purpose. They'd serve more as a handle for your opponent to grab and manhandle you, or rip off the helmet from your head. It's a bad idea, and it's also historically inaccurate. Contrary to popular culture, there's no evidence that Viking wore horned helmets. The most I've ever seen that be contested is that maybe they might have maybe in ceremonial purposes, which the iron helmets in skyrim are not for. Basically, it's a stupid design with no basis in history, which is bad considering the Nords are expies of the Norse. By the way, here's a mod that removes the horns, and the wings from the steel plate helmet.
I liked CoD: AW.
No matter how impractical it looks I actually think some of the armor designs in Skyrim like Dragon Bone armor and Nightingale armor are pretty cool :( Not to mention the Dark Brotherhood sets. And the Cicero one. Fite me
