everyone sorta doubts that santa is real but its part of the magic of christmas
i haven't stopped believing in santa because he is a real person that isn't alive anymore don't any of you ever tell your children that santa claus isn't real because that's a far worse lie than the modernized interpretation of this dude, which is meant to teach children selflessness and generosity. (selfish and bitter children get coal)
people are insulting disney for being too aggressive in their marketing campaign for star wars but i have seen so many more star wars-related things on facepunch, reddit, social media, etc. individuals are just as responsible for the hype mentality, if not more, than corporations
I don't even blame them, it's gonna make a billion+ probably [T]https://pbs-0.twimg.com/media/CSMpaFaVAAAs0rE.jpg[/T] And this is pure genius
Santa myth is great for teaching skepticism.
wrong thread lol
I don't think facts exist
well, it's a fact you think facts don't exist, so there goes everything out the window
I don't think facts exist
Isn't that a statement of fact?
America must and should annex every Anglophone country into the Union.
I don't think facts exist
I bet you read horoscopes and put dill leaves on your shoulders every time you get the hiccups
Isn't that a statement of fact?
I can make statements about unicorns but it doesn't mean unicorns exist I think facts are just as made-up as anything else. it's not really an uncommon concept (especially among smug philosophy students) but I've come to embrace it over the last few years. My first manager at my current job had a masters in philosophy, a minor in computer science, and he was a locally active christian, which surprised me; I had never really been prepared for the idea of a well-studied christian programmer, especially not one as brilliant as he was. I had always been a pretty strict internet atheist. We would talk often about very in-depth concepts, one of which was the idea that knowledge is a tool - not some kind of powerful unveiling insight into the Truthy mechanics of reality. And I do think it is a tool, not a thing in itself - there might be a bright green building on your street, and you might agree with another person that there is a bright green building on your street, and you might use the bright green building as a reliable landmark for finding your way around, but the only things you know are that you think there is a bright green building on your street, and that you think that someone agrees with you that there is a bright green building on your street. I'm not saying I've seen the light. I still operate the same way I always have. I'm not religious or anything. But I've come to respect the idea that all the things I believe, when viewed from a slightly different existential grid, can become complete nonsense, and my grid is not more valuable than any other. It's kind of weird knowing of people who've descended into severe schizophrenia or dementia, and realizing that the "world" that they live in would be an unrecognizable mess to anyone else. Who's to say our brains are running any better? Just because you can get seven billion people to agree on something doesn't make it true.
Facts aren't facts until they're facts. Fact. Also I abhor pickles, yuck.
I don't think facts exist
This is some Jaden Smith shit.
Kiss sucks
Turkey kinda sucks and I'd rather have pizza or wings or something for thanksgiving :v:
Turkey kinda sucks and I'd rather have pizza or wings or something for thanksgiving :v:
Turkey wings > Chicken wings
Turkey kinda sucks and I'd rather have pizza or wings or something for thanksgiving :v:
so make some I know I'm gonna cook me some chicken pasta and some nice thai food to avoid the somehow-not-outlawed terror that is finnish christmas cuisine
I think facts are just as made-up as anything else. it's not really an uncommon concept (especially among smug philosophy students) but I've come to embrace it over the last few years.
So you're saying you're in touch with your inner philosophy major?
I don't think facts exist
How can facts be real if knowledge isn't real
no they're real i get them all the time in my facts machine
I don't think facts exist
what about the fact that if i can think, i know i exist?
what about the fact that if i can think, i know i exist?
that is in fact, wrong wait...
that is in fact, wrong wait...
facts are always right, otherwise they wouldn't be facts but just wrong statements ^ this is a fact
ITS THE CURRENT YEAR! BY REMINDING YOU THAT ITS THE CURRENT YEAR, I MAKE YOUR IDEOLOGY SEEM PRIMITIVE, AND I DEVIATE AWAY FROM THE ARGUMENT AT HAND. THIS IS A FORM OF AD HOC FALLACY BUT I DONT CARE BECAUSE ITS THE CURRENT YEAR!
These types of arguments are stupid.
These types of arguments are stupid.
Imagine making those kind of arguments in 2015 [editline]16th December 2015[/editline] This is not what I wanted to use my 4,000th post for :v:
These types of arguments are stupid.
I wouldn't even call it an argument. Whenever someone says this to me in a debate I treat it as if they said nothing at all. [editline]16th December 2015[/editline] "Combative non sequitur" more like. IT'S 2015 IT'S DECEMBER IT'S WEDNESDAY
I literally couldn't be any less interested in the Star Wars franchise
